Ohh...

I think the sadest must be the last track on Troy:
"Remember Me"
Somehow reminds me of my littlebrother (he's dead)

I also like the one from the Mists of Avalon, "Who wants to live forever"

I really like sad music!

"Libera Me" from Interview with the Vampire is sad too...

For me, it's Schindler's list. I cannot even listen to it. It makes me cry everytime.

My saddest favorite: Sacrifice from the Buffy, Once More With A Feeling OST.

But I have to admit that Schindler's List is also very sad.

Other choices: Jane Eyre (Zeffirelli version), Brotherhood of the Wolves

It's strange, but I prefer sad scores.

I think the only soundtrack that ever makes me cry when I listen to it is Prince of Egypt. Outside of that one, most of my favourite sad ones are from Danny Elfman (though, they are a happy kind of sad...if that makes any sense)

I still avoid Edward Scissorhands because it tears my heart out. James Horner and the sad side of Danny Elfman really do it for me.

{Edit} I have to mention that The Trees from the score to the movie Medicine Man is very beautiful and very sad. Especially so if you've seen the movie.

Ditto schro...all though I have not seen the movie, but I know what it's about...

I own some rare out of print soundtracks from the late 80's and early 90's costume movies. The one that has part of it's score which can turn on tears is definitely "The East Is Red". It's one of my most treasured soundtrack in my 100+ collection. It's out of print and the company that owned the rights to distribute it has bankrupted a few years ago.

So many sad scores already mentionned... I would go for The double life of Veronica (La double vie de Veronique) as a good example.

I also find Goodbye Lenin to be sad, especially the last track of the album, Summer 78.

I didn't see these movies (yet!), so I'm not influenced by them and couldn't say if they bring the same kind of emotion...

On the other hand, I'd like to mention Suo Gan from The Empire of the Sun soundtrack. This song was used for an unofficial trailer of Grave of the Fireflies which is surely the saddest movie I ever saw. I just can't separate the music from this film.

I actually think that the ST for "Fried Green Tomatoes" is pretty sad because of everything that happens to Ruth. It gets me every time.

I would like to add Empire of the Sun (John Williams) and Dances With Wolves (John Barry)... Dances with Wolves makes me cry...

I agree for already quoted Shindler' List , Edward Scissorhands and Shawshank Redemption. So, for me, one of the sadest track is "The Search For The Blue Fairy" from Artificial Intelligence because it's become moving after a long worrying progression (It's a very tragic sequence, indeed)
