|
Many of us Stargate Atlantis fans get weak in the knees when we hear Joel Goldsmith’s gorgeous theme… and so do many other SST listeners.
Earlier today I asked in the queue if anyone knew what the words are that the choir is singing in the bridge part of this short theme.
I got an interesting PM from ld80061, pointing to an outside forum where someone asked that very question.
It didn’t give me the answer to my question, but it did have a link to Joel Goldsmith’s awesome web site!
Wow! There are 6 complete tracks of the main title theme showing the evolution of how the final version came to be. Crank up those speakers and soak it in.
Btw – I still haven’t found out what the choir is singing. Some say it’s just chanting, but it sounds like 13 syllables of distinct words to me. The last phrase seems like “..beyond the ___”.
Hope we can solve this mystery together. |

I was checking out Joel Goldsmith's official website FreeClyde again today and noticed he's added a very interesting Welcome blog.
Be sure to visit it sometime. It's a great site!
But I just have to share with you this funny Q&A bit:
“Are you Jerry Goldsmith’s son?”
Joel: "The answer is no. But, because of the powerful role nepotism plays in Hollywood, I use the name Goldsmith. I have also gone by the names: Joel Williams, Joel Horner, Joel Zimmer, Joel Newman, Joel Newton-Howard and of course Joel Herrmann...but I think Joel Goldsmith has a nice ring to it!"

I looked into the forums on Joel Goldsmith's official website FreeClyde
This is what he says in this thread:
I have it on good authority that the vocals are simply latin gibberish. jg" Actually, that's not entirely true. I did write lyrics and translated them into Latin and then used a a sophisticated choir sample library to perform them. After the translation compromising and the limitations of the samples the actual performance you hear is quite different than what i had originally envisioned. I did find my original lyrics the other day, so.... A free tee and a cd of your choice to the person who comes the closest to my original words! jg _________________ That's the beauty of music. It is a cool website. I am still waiting patiently for Helen of Troy. _________________ "Are you not entertained? Are you not entertained? Is this not why you are here?." -Maximus
