How does one get the music from games into tracks as they are available here?
I have the game Homeworld and would love to be able to hear the Adagio on it as a music track, but I have no idea how that would be done. Any ideas would be great.

I assume you mean the (especially here well-known) Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber.
This track is more than once in the playlist already, but I'm not sure if we have the choir a-cappella version. _________________ If our music survives, which I have no doubt it will,

There is an a cappella version by the Robert Shaw Festival Singers on The Scarlet Letter CD (John Barry), Track 06: Agnus Dei (Based On Adagio For Strings).
(Not currently available in the playlist as of 8/15/07, but will be soon.) |

All of the game soundtracks streamed on SST were uploaded from CDs legally purchased and owned by the site administrator, JERIC.
Many game soundtracks are now available on CD, but they are often hard to find. Sometimes, they are only available from overseas. Other times, as in the case of your coveted Homeworld, the soundtrack CD is included in a special edition release of the game. Luckily, the particular track you're looking for can be found much more easily elsewhere, as pointed out by bpewien and Twopop.
You can always check online stores like Amazon and Ebay. Good luck!

Ah, I thought the version I have was the correct one. But mine does not say "Now Includes Special Edition CD Soundtrack". My version must be a little older. Otherwise the cover is the same. My mistake.
I thought there might be some way to listen to it directly from the CD I have.
Thanks to all for the quick responses. I will look at The Scarlet Letter and see what else is out there. |

It all depends on how the developers implemented the music system. It can be as simple as audio tracks on the game CD or as complicated as a proprietary lossy audio algorithm. Unfortunately, it seems Homeworld belongs to the second category...

If you'll look at the link from Jeric, you'll see the track #'s start at "2". This is typical when the audio is right on the disc in a separate session, so you should just pop it in your stereo, and jump to track 2. |

You can also create a poll to get the SST community to vote to add it to the playlist. Here is the link to the Request portion of the Forums: Remember to check the request netiquette thread to see how to format your request.

Thanks Yukon. I did try that but, apparently my version just doesn't have the tracks laid down in a readable form. I looked around and there were several versions of this game produced, mine just doesn't have the tracks .
...but I can still hear it on SST (and I can buy it sometime). |
