Well, we've already got "Us & Them: Symphonic Pink Floyd" here on SST, and being the Led Zeppelin fan that I am, I want to have Kashmir: The Symphonic Led Zeppelin available to enjoy on here also.
I was impressed the very first time that I listened to this CD. Particualry outstanding was "Dawn At The Great Pyramid" followed by "Kashmir".
The majestic orchestration by the London Philharmonic Orchestra really does this piece well ! !
Another standout is "All My Love"
"When The Levee Breaks" does not dissapoint.
Track Listing
1. Dawn At The Great Pyramid
2. Kashmir
3. The Battle Of Evermore
4. Stairway To Heaven
5. When The Levee Breaks
6. Going To California
7. Friends
8. All My Love
9. Kulu Valley

I like it. I've always appreciated Led Zepplin's music. I think it would be neat to have here as well. I vote yes. _________________ I do not wake up with thoughts of control and rebellion, but thoughts of purpose and righteousness and the empowerment to fulfill those convictions that define me. |

I had to vote no. Not that the music (at least in its original form, and very likely in this form as well) isn't great. However, the only "reason" provided to me for including Us and Them was that it was directed by Michael Kamen, who has also done scores, and because PF has done a soundtrack (although I don't believe that any of those tracks appear on Us and Them. And no, The Wall was a movie made from the album, so that doesn't count either). In any event, it's my well known opinion that we shouldn't have that here. I may be a hypocrite often in life, but I don't plan on being one here. To be consistent if we add this then we need to add Metallica's S&M album as well.

Check this background out on Jaz Coleman. It has me vote _________________ If you have it you don't need it. If you need it you don't have it. You need it to get it and you certainly need it to get more of it. Which means you don't have it to begin with people just know. |

Yes, here's some of that data from Wikipedia here:
Along with Anne Dudley of Art of Noise fame, in 1990 Coleman co-wrote and co-performed the middle-eastern instrumental album called "Songs From the Victorious City" (which is a reference to Cairo, Egypt). In 1995 he released his first of three albums of symphonic rock music. Us and Them: Symphonic Pink Floyd and Kashmir: The Symphonic Led Zeppelin were both written and produced by Coleman with Peter Scholes conducting the London Philharmonic Orchestra. On June 8, 2007, Coleman collaborated with over 150 youth musicians in the Contemporary Youth Orchestra, based in Cleveland, OH, to perform the entirety of Kashmir: Symphonic Led Zeppelin along with additional orchestrations of Led Zeppelin's music. _________________ Emergency Command Override 100375 ---- "READY WHEN YOU ARE SGT. So how was Kamen involved with Us and Them: Symphonic Pink Floyd? _________________ If you have it you don't need it. If you need it you don't have it. You need it to get it and you certainly need it to get more of it. Which means you don't have it to begin with people just know. |

I feel that when music is married to an image, then, we have a soundtrack. Music that makes you think of the film....
Flim... that make you think of the Music.
I think that counts, toward the spirit of what is, and what is not a soundtrack.
Originality means nothing to me.
If "The Blue Danube" evokes the film 2001:A Space Odyssey, then, that, is enough, for me.
Everyone has their opinion. I know I do. _________________ Emergency Command Override 100375 ---- "READY WHEN YOU ARE SGT. PEMBRY ...." |

Obi: Hmm. I thought he was the conductor for some reason, but I can't seem to verify that. I could be wrong. It wouldn't be the first time (today). In any event, I don't think it belongs here at SST.
Sound_Track: I agree with what you're saying about music and film. However, I'm missing the part where this album is related to a film. Perhaps you can enlighten me.
On a related note, this actually might fit at Adagio.FM, but I'm not sure about that. Seems more of a fit than here, to me. Us and Them too.

Remove the Fantasia Soundtracks too. If that’s the criteria we will be using. The music from Fantasia was never originally intended for a movie or television show. The Fantasia Films were inspired by the music just like Tommy and The Wall. |

Well, Darth, there are other arguments for removing Fantasia, such as sound quality. But the fact is, they are the soundtrack for a motion picture. We might as well remove all the classical music from Amadeus or the opera track from Shawshank Redemption if we want to purge music that wasn't written for a film.
I, personally, don't care for Led Zeppelin's music. I find the song Kashmir to be boring in its regular format, and I don't see a symphonic arrangement changing that. But that's just my opinion, and I know there are some devoted fans out there. _________________ I have a book coming out. Wanna see it?

I don't think that I argued against removing something that was used in a film but not written for it. I was arguing against having symphonic versions of rock music on here when there is no relation to any film that I can find. Even the one dubious connection I thought that Us and Them had might not be valid (and certainly isn't a reason for including it here in any event).
Music used in a film, and now associated with that film, is fine with me. I wouldn't have any problem with including The Wall here if JERIC were so inclined.
