Three for you to listen to at the bottom of this Warner Brother's official site for the score release. Just scroll to the bottom of the page and there is a little media player where you can listen to the samples.

I'll try to reserve judgement until I've seen the movie and heard the whole score in context, but so far, feh!

Of course, that wouldn't stop me from going to the composers' CD signing in NY, if I could:

A 9:14 track and a 16:15 track... that will make some people very happy! Mr. Green

Yeah, this is awesome! Will save some money by being donated too. Being too lazy to check back have Warner Bothers been donating a few soundtracks or is this a special?

Those in the US can listen to the whole thing here for free:
http://free.napster.com/view/album/index.html?id=12873229

Usefull if you're not able to catch it in the queue. I listened to it last night, and I must confess, I was not inspired. (I know, I know. An entire two people just died of surprise.) Aside from "Harvey Two-Face," which has a neat variation on my favorite theme from the first album ("Eptesicus/Corynorhinus") there's mostly the same stuff from Batman Begins, and some different, but not necessarily good, sound decisions. I find the first track to be very, very boring. Maybe it works in context. Also, just because Hans Zimmer CAN put 16 minutes of music together for a single track doesn't mean he SHOULD.

The guy at filmtracks.com reviews the album here. Bear in mind that he hates any score that is not Wagnerian in its use of themes. E'en so, I find I agree with him here.

I know that it is uncommon to copy a known theme from something else but Shirly Walker's TwoFace theme was incredible. Very simple with low deep bass tones and a very high piccolo playing a very twisted melody. I so wish they would have incorporated that idea in the theme somehow. But I digress... I would say, although it is more of the same old same old, it's not all that bad.

I'm posting this here because it's Batman-music-relevant, and I don't feel like creating a new thread.

You remember Jim Steinman. Writer of, among other pop hits, "Total Eclipse of the Heart" and most of the extant Bat out of Hell albums. (If you hate him already, read no further.)

Years ago, he was working on a Batman musical. (If you hate musicals, read no further.) Warner Bros gave up on the project, but there were some demos which you might find interesting. Here are the links:

http://media.jimsteinman.com/audio/VespersAngelsAriseGraveyardShift.mp3
http://media.jimsteinman.com/audio/landofthepig-256.mp3
http://media.jimsteinman.com/audio/02WonderfulToys.mp3
http://media.jimsteinman.com/audio/catwoman.mp3
http://media.jimsteinman.com/audio/stillthechildren-256.mp3

Rough though they are, I think these demos show that this show, had it happened, would have had moments of brilliance and ludicrousness throughout.

Jim himself talks about the songs, and the show, here: http://jimsteinman.blogspot.com/2006_08_01_archive.html

A Caveat: It's Jim himself singing all the male vocals, except for "Land of the Pig," which features the wonderful Rob Evan. Jim is not a singer, and he knows this. So try to ignore that part of it and listen to the man act within an inch of his life. Also, I think that may be the incomparable Steve Margoshes on piano. Not sure. There is a better version of "Still the Children" at http://www.myspace.com/thedreamengine but it's not available for download.

Anyway, been listening to these a lot; though I'd share.

I listened to the catwoman.mp3 and I think there's potential, let's propose
Jim Steinman to compose the next Batman/Dark Knight score.
He could use his ready-to-use samples.

Scorekeeper, the guy at Ain't It Cool News who reviews (what else?) scores, is giving away copies of TDK. Y'know, in case you don't have yours. And the entry parameters are particularly suited to the brand of nerds that lives here at SST. For details, visit:
