A couple days ago SST had a "vocal day" during which people requested primarily soundtracks with vocals. I enjoyed it, and it made me realize that some of the best "vocal" soundtracks are not on SST. Of course, I know SST does not like soundtracks containing rock/pop songs that are "inspired by" the movie but aren't actually in the movie, and I don't like those soundtracks either. But what about soundtracks with classic rock songs that are featured prominently in the films. I think Tarantino is really good at making the music a big part of his movies. For me, Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction have some of the most memorable movie-music moments, like Michael Madsen torturing a cop to the tune of Steelers Wheel's "Stuck in the Middle With You" or John Travolta and Uma Thurman dancing to Chuck Berry's "You Never Can Tell." All of the tracks on these soundtrack CDs are in the movie.
I used to think SST was about score-only, and that was probably true years ago when I first joined, but a classical music station was started since then and after Tuesday's "vocal day" it's apparent to me that other styles of music are OK on SST as long as it's part of the movie. If that's true, I think these soundtracks are a must-add.. |

Voted no, sorry. This just opens up a huge can of worms for myriad pop compilations to be added.
Of course, I'm biased. I switched to Adagio.fm on 'Vocals Day'.

Voted no, too.
While I sometimes enjoy a non-score soundtrack while watching the movie in question, I've found that I don't care much to listen to the songs apart from the movie. And it's worse if I don't know the movie the songs are from. While I can enjoy a score from a movie I've never seen, with songs it's too much like switching on random 'normal' radio.

Although I like Tarantino's movies very much with his great music selection used in the movie, I voted no. He is a master to to find the right song. I would never expect that for instance Little Green Bag from this Dutch group as their first single in 1969, would be used in a movie.
But I think SST should be more sticked to 'for the movie/game/musical made' soundtracks and not compilations of songs used in the movie.
That said. I know there are some exceptions here in the library that are compilations though. _________________ That's the beauty of music. They can't take that away from you. (Andy Dufresne)

I understand that Vocal Day can be fun (there are some vocals at SST I really enjoy) and I have nothing against albums with score and some vocal tracks but in this case my impression is that there is no score on these CDs at all.

I see... this makes sense. Music that was made for the movie is the key.
Well, it looks like this probably won't happen. Thanks for your input, folks. |

It doesn't have to be made for the movie specifically, although it must be so closely associated with the movie that the majority of the listeners think first of the movie when they hear it.
I don't think that this is one of those times.
Thanks for your input and willingness to help make SST a better station.
