Here are the official 81st Academy Awards submissions so far. Films must be released in their own country for at least a week from 1st October 2007 to 30th Sept 2008. For Singapore, I think most likely we would submit 12 Lotus because the other films are mainly collaborated with other countries.

South Korea - Keurosing (Crossing)

Yong-soo lives in a small coal-mine village in North Korea with his wife and young son. Although living in extreme poverty, the family is happy just to be with each other. Then one day, Yong-soo’s pregnant wife becomes critically ill. Let alone medicine, Yong-soo can’t even find food for her in North Korea. So he secretly crosses the borders of China hoping to find the medicine for his wife. After many life threatening moments in China, Yong-soo is forced into South Korea, becoming an unwanted refugee prohibited to return to his family. Meanwhile, his wife passes away leaving their young son alone in desperation. With no one to turn to, his young son sets out to find his father not knowing where or how to find him.

Denmark - To Verdener (Worlds Apart)

A girl is torn between her faith and her feelings in this coming of age drama from Denmark. Sara Dahl (Rosalinde Mynster) is seventeen years old and has been raised in a family of strict Jehovah's Witnesses. Sara follows the tenets of the faith and often joins her family to distribute church literature door to door in hopes of attracting new converts. Despite the Dahl family's devotion to their church, there has been a great deal of tension in the household -- her father (Jens Jorn Spottag) has been unfaithful to her mother (Sarah Boberg), and while he's deeply contrite, she's unwilling to forgive him. One night, Sara goes out with some friends from school and they end up at a dance club where she meets a handsome boy named Teis (Pilou Asbaek). The two feel an immediate attraction to one another, and as Sara falls for Teis, she begins to encounter a world and ideas she's never considered before, and starts to question the doctrine that she's been taught since childhood. However, Sara's parents are uncomfortable with her relationship with Teis, and they discuss her new attitudes with John (Anders W. Berthelsen), the pastor at their church, and he confronts her both privately and publicly about the morality of her new love.

Netherlands - Dunya & Desie

Two teenage girls who are each facing a crisis set off on an adventure in this comedy-drama from Holland. Desie (Eve van de Wijdeven) is an eighteen-year-old girl from the Netherlands who likes to party and enjoys flirting with guys perhaps a bit too much. Desie's best friend is Dunya (Maryam Hassouni), whose family are expatriates from Morocco; even though they seem to have little in common on the surface, Desie and Dunya are all but inseparable, and Dunya's family are worried that her pal may be a bad influence. Dunya's parents Rachida Iaallala and Mahjoub Benmoussa) have arranged for her to marry a boy in Morocco, though Dunya herself isn't especially happy about the idea. Shortly before Dunya is to be sent to Morocco to meet her new husband, Desie learns that she's pregnant, and she's not sure what to do next. Desie's father abandoned the family years ago and headed to Casablanca; she decides to go find him, and Dunya runs off with her. Dunya and Desie was adapted from a popular Dutch television series, with Eve van de Wijdeven and Maryam Hassouni reprising their roles from TV.

Taiwan - 海角七號 (Cape No. 7)

Set in the southern coastal town of Hengchun, Pintung County, "Cape No. 7" follows the fortunes of vocalist A-chia, a local boy who has returned to Hengchun after a tough time up in the big smoke of Taipei City. A-chia starts work as a mailman, where he comes across a mysterious love letter written 60 years earlier and yet to be delivered. Meanwhile a former Japanese model stranded in Hengchun decides to put on a live event. A-chia's stepfather decides to get a band together with his stepson and five other local residents to enter the concert. The film follows their preparations in a multi-layered story.

Philippines - Ploning

Ploning, is a story of one man's search for the enigmatic woman who has deeply wounded him in the past. Having grown up in an illegal Taiwanese fishing vessel, Rodrigo (30 years old) returns to the beautiful island of Cuyo and is given from sunrise to sunset to look for his Ploning. In his search, he discovers that the woman he loved and adored as a boy is not the woman he thought he knew. Ploning has displayed her maternal love for Digo ( the 6-year old Rodrigo) but is shrouded in her mysterious love and devotion for Tomas, her childhood sweetheart who left her when she was 16. This 30-year-old spinster who has held a special place amongst the people as a dutiful daughter, a devoted friend, a caring sister and a loving maternal figure is slowly unveiled through Rodrigos memory and an emotional meeting with Ploning's confidante, Seling. Through his search, Ploning will be revealed as the island's most bittersweet source of selfless love.

Jordan - Captain Abu Raed

An aging airport janitor who is mistaken for an airline pilot by a group of poor neighborhood children weaves fantastical stories to offer hope for a sad, and sometimes unchangeable, reality.

Austria - Revanche

A happily married couple becomes unlikely friends with a man whose life has been marked by chaos and violence in this drama from Austria. Alex (Johannes Krisch) is a small-time criminal who after a stretch in prison finds himself working for Konecny (Hanno Poeschi), who run a grimy house of prostitution; unknown to Konecny, Alex is also involved with Tamara (Irina Potapenko), one of his whores. Wanting to raise some quick cash, Alex robs a bank in a nearby small town and hides out on a farm owned by his grandfather (Hannes Thanheiser) while he waits for the heat to cool down. Alex tries to keep a low profile while waiting for Tamara to join him in the country, and he's troubled by boredom and despair, but his mood brightens when he strikes up a friendship with Susanne (Ursula Strauss), a cheerful and generous woman who lives nearby. But Alex's new friend happens to be married to Robert (Andreas Lust), a member of the local police force.

Hungary - Iska's Journey

Abused by her parents and dejected by her bleak existence in an impoverished village of the Zsil River Valley, a twelve year-old girl finds just how much worse things can get after determining that she would be better off on her own. Iska (Maria Varga) is a young girl who earns money for her family by scavenging for metal, coal, and other various valuables in the rubble surrounding her village. When Iska returns home empty-handed one day after unwisely bargaining with a buyer, her parents punish her with a sound thrashing. Though she hesitates at the thought of leaving her sick sister Rozsika (Rozsika Varga) behind, Iska furtively slips out of the family home to seek out a better life elsewhere. A short stay in the well-intended but woefully inadequate orphanage system does little to ease the frightened child's fears for the future, and though things begin to look up when Iska plans a seaside escape with friendly boy Marian (Marion Rusache) things soon take a turn for the worse when Iska is kidnapped by deviants who run a child prostitution ring.
