|
Hi guys!! I just got an 8gig I-pod touch!!!! I was hoping to get essential track suggestions to help me fill it up!! I'm pretty easy to please in that I like just about all genres, but I don't like new hip hop. 90's hip hop is ok
One possible suggestion is to list the top 5 albums or tracks you would suggest I have on my i-pod!!
Thanks a bunch!!! _________________ I do not wake up with thoughts of control and rebellion, but thoughts of purpose and righteousness and the empowerment to fulfill those convictions that define me. |

This is fun WL0, and if it was my Ipod, I would have these 5 albums on it. Let's not make this a music bashing thread. This is opinion folks, if you don't agree, that's fine, but let's keep this light.
1. Gladiator - Both Scores
2. Amy Winehouse - Back To Black
3. Indigo Girls - Rites of Passage
4. Top Gun Soundtrack (For my 80s fix)
5. Nine Inch Nails - Pretty Hate Machine
Wow, that was tough, only 5? Good luck WL0

Well if it is only Soundtracks I assume you already have filled it with some (all) FF tracks
I also should add both Gladiator albums.
Blade Runner
and some Lord of The Rings tracks.
Non soundtracks
DJ Tiësto - Elements Of Life (requestable at Entranced.FM)
Yello - Flag and another one One Second (both on 1980s.FM)
Maybe later more suggestions _________________ That's the beauty of music. They can't take that away from you. (Andy Dufresne)

Well, if it's variety you're looking for... I highly recommend the following:
1. James Brown's Funky People, Vol 1, by Various Artists: an incredible selection of the best funk classics most folks have never heard... except as sampled by numerous hih-hop artists over the years.
2. Unearthed, by E.S. Posthumus: of course.
3. Piano Concerto No. 2, Op. 18, by Sergei Rachmaninov: simply one of most enjoyable concert works from the Romantic period... look for a performance by Vladimir Ashkenazy and the LSO on the London label.
4. Conan the Barbarian, by Basil Poledouris: if I could own only one film score, this would have to be the one.
5. Paid in Full or Follow the leader, by Eric B. and Rakim: if you like old-school, look no further... this duo puts on a veritable clinic in how-to-hip-hop, without all the language, violence, misogyny, and other garbage too often displayed by today's posers.
There's a start, at least.

I just had a look at my Top Played list on iTunes. Let's see what music I listen to, aside from score, that I might infect you with.
You really should have some Jim Steinman on there, even if you only listen to it as a good trash/guilty pleasure. The first Bat out of Hell album would do nicely. Original Sin, by Pandora's Box, is another suggestion, though there are some cover songs on it I don't care for.
Another category I favor: showtunes. Oh, yeah. You can't go wrong with Sondheim: Assassins is probably the most catchy. Sweeney Todd (any of the Broadway recordings) is also good. If you're looking for rock opera, Jesus Christ Superstar is awesome on a few levels. The soundtrack for REPO: The Genetic Opera is going to be released here next week. It's eclectic, to say the least. Adult content, no question. I haven't heard it all, but what I've heard, I like.
Oldies. I think a good Rolling Stones singles compilation is a must, though I also favor Buddy Holly.
If you're looking to fill up for free…well, it won't happen. But all the same, check out the mp3 store at Amazon.com every Tuesday. They're ususally giving away a clutch of free tracks. Something will probably tickle your fancy. _________________ I have a book coming out. Wanna see it?
