Moi, Van Gogh - Armand Amar
Can we delete this album? So far what ive heard is 99% french dialogue, barely any music at all. it is very annoying to have such a great artist like Amar in the queue and all you get is a french guy talking to you for 2 minutes or so. This is a score station, not a dialogue one. Yes i know some tracks, like Gladiator have dialogue, but not for the whole track....my opinion, please tell me yours _________________ The right song can turn an emperor into a laughing stock, can bring down dynasties. Seconded! I feel like I'm back in high school French class. I have no problem with a bit of dialogue, but when the whole track is dialogue, it gets to be a bit much. Hopefully after a few weeks it won't be played too much- the newness will be worn off. |

im with jaded. i haven't heard the whole album but if there are any musical tracks worth saving please keep them but the french dialogue part did go on for a bit yesterday.
perhaps the mp3's could be edited to remove thw dialogue at the end? that way everyone wins? _________________ “Our lives are not our own. We are bound to others, past and present, and by each crime and every kindness, we birth our future.” |

I'm a bit torn on that one, being a great fan of Amar works.
I'll have to hear more tracks before I can give an opinion. Could it be that only the first 15 tracks feature dialogs?
For the record, this movie is actually a 40 minutes documentary, and it could well be they added the whole monologue in the soundtrack...

I think you are right Alchemist. I'm sure I requested a track with number above 15 ("Mon Cheri Ami" actually) and it was music. Not bad music in my opinion.
I vote for removing only dialogue tracks from that album.
So it's 'No" from me for removing the whole album. _________________ <i>"The piano keys are black and white,

why is Van Gogh speaking French???
I have not heard anything from it. So cannot vote it yet. If there are music tracks on it without or little dialogue, I would say let those be here. Tracks with only dialogue or most of it, I can understand to remove them.
So not voting yet. First I want to hear some of it _________________ That's the beauty of music. They can't take that away from you. (Andy Dufresne)

Alchemist requested "La Mort" from "Moi Van Gogh" today and I enjoyed it enough to make it part of my Favs List. Want to hear more of the score too _________________ <i>"The piano keys are black and white,

I also listened to the track "La Mort" ("Death") which is a very nice piano track. I gave the album a listen on Deezer (a French legal streaming site) and I confirm that only the 15 first tracks contain dialogs, some more than others.
Although the consensus might be to remove the first dialog tracks, I'd prefer to write a review that clearly states that the 15 first tracks contain French dialogs and let the album unaltered |

thanks for changing it to remove....and thanks for the thoughts....i would of course want to keep any tracks that dont have dialogue, i love amar's work. if that be the case....then the first 15 be noted that there is dialogue and not removed...i guess we do really keep everything here.... _________________ The right song can turn an emperor into a laughing stock, can bring down dynasties. Thank you, Jaded, for bringing this to my attention, and for the feedback from others as well.
I will take a close listen to this album right away, and see if we can make everyone happy. |

I haven't had a chance to listen to any of the new additions and I didn't even know about this score until it was added. I'll have to check it out before I can decide.
BTW this one seems to be only a digital release. I haven't found a cd anywhere. Is it ok to have digital releases? With digital releases by labels like MovieScoreMedia it seems fine because the label itself is donating the music to SST. But what about other digital albums? You'd want to check and be sure. |

BP, this CD is physically available in France (maybe only in France), check Moi, Van Gogh - Armand Amar on Amazon.fr. Since it is a short documentary with a limited release, I don't think it ever had a chance to go abroad...
Thanks for checking out, Two! |

Just a couple of thoughts on this one. I found this album on amazon.fr also and was very curious about it. I was thinking about donating it to SST but after listening to the samples I was not so sure. However, I bought the downloadable version. After listening to it I decided against donating it, because the first 15 tracks (Van Gogh Part I to XV) indeed contain mostly dialogue in French, and I thought they would not be added anyway.
I was a bit surprised when I noticed all tracks from this album had been included in the playlist. I was about to start a poll myself about removing these 15 dialogue tracks, but jaded beat me to it . So, I do really love Armand Amar's music, but I think it would not be a great loss to remove these 15 tracks from the playlist. Please, do leave the rest, though. They contain some truly lovely music. |

I listened to each track. As you said, tracks 1-13 are almost entirely dialogue, some with music playing in the background, some not, and all the sound effects as well. In other words, the tracks were taken right from the film's audio track. There are a few short passages here and there where guitar solo comes out or you hear some underscore, but they are all included later on the album.
I removed tracks 1-3, 5-11, and 13.
I left parts of tracks 4 and 12 where there was a long enough music segment; however, there are still sound effects (sketching noise & crickets).
Tracks 16-25 are pure Amar score. Enjoy! |
