FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

THE HILLS RUN RED FOR COMPOSER FREDERIK WIEDMANN

Young Composer Celebrates The Release Of THE HILLS RUN RED On CD

(November 16, 2009- Burbank, CA) – Composer Frederik Wiedmann is proud to announce the release of The Hills Run Red – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, available on Varese Sarabande. This release is the second time a soundtrack composed by Wiedmann has been released on CD, the first being 2007’s Return To House On Haunted Hill, also available on Varese Sarabande.

Frederik Wiedmann began his film music studies in Boston at Berklee College of Music where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Film Scoring (Suma Cum Laude) in 2004. That same year he earned the BMI Film Scoring Award 2004. He began working for composer John Frizzell (Office Space, Alien Resurrection) as orchestrator, score mixer, arranger, programmer and eventually as co-producer and co-composer. Credited on the Defiance, Ohio soundtrack as “the guy who keeps it together,” Wiedmann has continues to work with Frizzell on upcoming films like Legion and Whiteout while making a name for himself composing for films like Return to House on Haunted Hill and Cyrus.

The film’s director, Dave Parker, initially told Wiedmann he didn’t want a traditional horror score for the film. But Wiedmann felt otherwise. “Soon after sharing both our ideas about the music,” said Wiedmann, “Dave and I quickly realized that the right thing for the film is a score on a larger scale, with orchestral elements, and electronic layers on top of it. We found that themes are necessary for the story, as well as iconic sounds, that are unique to certain characters.”

To accomplish the perfect balance between a more traditional score and the director’s vision, Wiedmann utilized more unconventional orchestrations (larger viola section than violins) with experimental instrumentations (dulcimer, string drums, different woodwinds), performed by the Czech Film Orchestra and featuring vocals by Ayana Haviv on “Desiderio” and the final track “Phantasmagorical Holocaust.”

Wiedmann described, “This final scene in the film needed a grand, operatic, yet horrific and at the same time eerie composition, to really convey the emotions that the main character, Tyler, is going through. Ayana turned out to be a perfect match; her voice has both an ethnic touch as well as an operatic feel. Dave [Parker, director] was a big part of this vocal session and directed the vocalist to the right sound.”

The result pleased both composer and director. “With film I want the viewer to be thrilled, disturbed, scream, and cover their eyes,” said Parker. “But don’t cover your ears or you will miss out on all the great music that lies within.”

You heard the story. The one about the goriest, bloodiest splatter fest ever, the one made in the ‘80s but mysteriously lost. Flash forward to now: Young fright fans search for the secret location where the movie is shot, hoping to find the film. What they find is that the mysterious shocker flick was more than a movie. It’s real. And they’re its newest stars. The Hills Run Red with a whole new level of horror as the terrified cinephiles confront a demented killer who wears a nightmarish babydoll mask. Wait, Babyface is just a character from the movie, right? Wrong. He’s alive. He’s waiting. And he’s thrilled to meet fans who will die – slowly, gruesomely, shockingly – for his art. Roll camera!

Warner Premiere presents a Dark Castle Home Entertainment Production The Hills Run Red, is currently available on DVD. The Varese Sarabande soundtrack The Hills Run Red, containing original music composed by Frederik Wiedmann is available in stores and via iTunes.
