If only these three become available to request on SST I'll be so pleased. My comments on these three choices are as follows.
i. Percepolis opening titles.
The track sets up the tone of the movie just right. It has a joyful melancholiness to it. It mirrors the childhood innocence of (main character) Marjane Satrapi as she grows up in Iran and supports her family's fight in the revolution.
ii. Marche Persane
Starts of with an off beat western clock chiming. Marjane has been sent to live in France away from wartorn Iran. France is all new to Marjane, she enjoys the freedom and tries to fit in, with a culture she is not used to. But she is happy enough ... for a little while. The change in tone on the last few bars of the track is very telling of what will become of Marjane.
iii. Love and Hate
Depicts Marjane's adventures in relationships. This track is jaunty. it is lighthearted and fun, riddled with cheeky humour. Violin, guitar and piano make a nice ensemble.
