Often I will request something that I have in my library, and sometimes I get this guilty feeling. I can listen to this any time I want! Why am I burdening the queue with it? Then my dæmon reminds me that what I'm requesting is a great track, and all I want to do is share my favorite music with my fellow SSTers, so it's cool.
So... anyone else do this? |

I vote none of the above.
Yes I request stuff that is in my personal collection, because i like them and want to share it with the rest of the world. I also request tracks that are not in it. But sometimes it will be in the near future see the forum what is your latest album
Often because when I hear enough of those albums hear I like to own it. _________________ That's the beauty of music. They can't take that away from you. (Andy Dufresne)

That's exact my opinion - so why write the same again? _________________ It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.

A lot of the time, I buy a CD because I know I like one or two tracks on there, so I am moving from some familiar to some unknown, rather than hearing a full CD worth of "new" music. In the same way, I like having some familiar tracks mixed in with the new ones I am getting acquainted with on SST, so will frequently request ones I already know (a lot of which I also possess).
Also, while at work, it gives me a chance to call up a particular track I want to hear without having to bring my 1000-CD collection into work [Work frowns on loading personal music onto your PC]
And of course, I want you all to listen to the glory of Doctor Who |

Oh, for the love of diddly... the options I put in the poll were a Gilbert and Sullivan joke in the first place. Just consider the "hardly ever" to be somewhere between all the time and never, which are metaphorical anyway. The forums won't let me change it this late in the game. |

I choose "all the time" but, as Twopop said, the truth is "very often".
Believe it or not, but I listen more music at work than at home. So, yeah, I can listen to all the good stuff I own, but it'll take more time to hear it. _________________ There is no problem that can't be solve without any solution |

You see, there's an interesting difference between me and many others on this site. I listen from home almost exclusively, because when I'm at work, I'm teaching, and SST doesn't really fit. And when I'm home, I'm listening through the same computer that has all my score on it. _________________ I have a book coming out. Wanna see it?

I, too, feel "guilty" about requesting tracks I own, but I do it sometimes.
Mostly I prefer to request stuff that I don't know in order to get to know it. _________________ "Welcome to the paranoia club; cheapest fees in the universe and membership lasts forever."

I don't actually request much at all, now that I think of it. But when I do, I guess it does seem silly to me to request tracks that I already own, so I refrain. In fact, my 'Favorites' list are populated by tracks and, especially, albums that I don't actually own. I use the Favorite Albums list as kind of a Wish List. And there are only a few Favorite Tracks that I also own.
But I don't judge anyone for doing it differently...

I guess I didn't really realize it, but yes I request tracks and albums that I own all the time! I usually only listen to SST at work so I don't have my collection with me. Plus I have a really pathetic little collection without much variety. ) _________________ Dream as if you'll live forever, live as if you'll die tomorrow. - James Dean |

I'm with Alien. Although I do like trying to expose others to the great scores (in my opinion) not heard enough - On the Beach, Cry Freedom, and more. |

I do request tracks i own on CD very often, too, cause i want to share the beautiful, powerful or just crazy tracks with my fellow SST-members and maybe do the same what others did to me: putting another great, but before unknown track in the fav list
But i also request tracks that i don't own for the easy reason to listen to them |

i don't feel guilty for it. i request something i like and share it by having it played. likewise others do the same and i get to hear what others think is awesome. sometime i like it and go buy it because of it
