FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LAKESHORE RECORDS TO RELEASE THE SOUNDTRACK FOR AMERICAN FLYER
Mexican-Flavored Soundtrack Features Original Music by Mark Kilian
(June 8, 2011- Los Angeles, CA) – Lakeshore Records will release the American Flyer -- Original Motion Picture Soundtrack available digitally on July 5, 2011. The soundtrack features original music by Mark Kilian (La Mission, Rendition).
South African born Mark Kilian has had a successful and eclectic film scoring career since moving to Los Angeles, writing music for many movies and TV shows which very often have an ethnic or world sensibility about them. He has scored movies like the Academy Award™-winning Tsotsi, Traitor, Rendition, La Mission, and Before the Rains, but also more mainstream films like John Carpenter’s The Ward and Legacy. His third album under the name “The Gravy Street” will be released in June.
An economically repressed young man (Bondo) loses his father in his attempt to cross the border (to send money home) at Tijuana, Mexico. As Bondo sets out on his own, he encounters an array of people holding him back, including the Chief of TJ police that killed his father, that now wants him dead too. The film stars Danny Trejo, Douglas Spain, Ray Aguoyo, Richard Azurdia, and Yeniffer Behrens.
“This movie is set in Tijuana, Mexico,” said Kilian, “and I started out researching for this project by going to Tijuana and spending some time there just soaking up the sounds of the streets, bars, bullfights, parties and life in general. One can always hear music in TJ and unlike most parts of the world the majority of it is live and played by real people. There is even a nightclub with an 18-piece band format that holds thousands of people and it is always full of people dancing which harkens back to the big band days.”
Kilian continued, “While I did not set out to write a Mexican score, I was definitely influenced by all I heard in TJ. I was also listening a lot to the modern proponents of electronic music in TJ, Nortec Collective as well as Mexican Institute of Sound and other electronica artists in Mexico. “
Arc Entertainment presents American Flyer available on DVD on July 5, 2011. American Flyer – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack on Lakeshore Records will be released digitally on July 5, 2011.
