LAKESHORE RECORDS TO RELEASE THE SOUNDTRACK FOR LIONSGATE’S THE DEVIL’S DOUBLE
Soundtrack Features Original Music by Christian Henson
(July 19, 2011- Los Angeles, CA) – Lakeshore Records today announced the release of The Devil’s Double -- Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. The album will be available digitally on July 26th and in stores on August 12, 2011. The film will be released by Lionsgate® in select theaters on July 29th, 2011.
The score album features original music by Christian Henson (CHASING LIBERTY, SEVERANCE), who says of the score’s composition “I composed with a sense of childhood- of innocence and how the film shows it being perverted by Uday, an undisciplined and feral child trapped in the body of a dangerous man who can have everything and anyone. I played with this dissonance a lot- the score is a cocktail of innocence with menace, of hope and simplicity set against the backdrop of utter evil.”
Agreeing with director Lee Tamahori that the film shouldn’t be either a history or a geography lesson, Henson added just subtle tinctures of Persian influence, alongside select historical musical references. There is also a distinct musical stamp on each character; the music to accompany Uday’s notorious concubine Sarrab was highly synthesized, not only because she was so much a stylistic product of the 1980’s, but because her truth goes as deep as her plastic and ever shifting appearance. For the central character of Latif, Henson sought to convey musically the degree to which he was desperately trapped. His music is of a gravity and intricacy fitting for a man whose journey was one of the most complex fights for survival imaginable.

About Christian Henson
Christian Henson found his way into film composition from early beginnings in the UK Drum & Bass, Breakbeat and Pop scene of the 1990s working with the likes of LTJ Bukem, The Freestylers, Scott Walker & Roy Ayers. Henson has written for over 50 hit, and cult TV series including Top Gear and Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps while programming for and assisting a number of film composers including Anne Dudley, Harry & Rupert Gregson Williams, Dario Marianelli and Patrick Doyle.
Since his debuts with LES FILS DU VENT and CHASING LIBERTY in 2004 (which earned Christian a Best Newcomer nomination at that year's "World Soundtrack Awards"), Christian has used his broad experience both in orchestral and electronic disciplines to write an eclectic mixture of scores from ITV's critically acclaimed period mini series Lost in Austen to Chris Smith's cult horror hit SEVERANCE (which earned him an Ivor Novello nomination for "Best Original Movie Score" in 2007). More recently Christian scored the British comedy HUGE, the directorial debut of actor/writer Ben Miller. He also wrote the music for the harrowing French drama LA RAFLE, which opened to fantastic reviews in March 2010.
About The Film
Based on a gripping, unbelievable true story of money, power and opulent decadence, Lionsgate’s THE DEVIL’S DOUBLE takes a white-knuckle ride deep into the lawless playground of excess and violence known as Baghdad, 1987.
