Okay, I hate politics, and have no clue about how the American system works. All I know that it plain sucks [Wink]

But I am curious how the situation is at the moment. I see Jeric posting about modifying the playlist next year. So I guess the danger is over now, or has the 'deadline' just moved?

Could someone enlighten me in english preferable in about 1 to 5 sentences [Smile]

The short form of what is going on is that the record companies (RIAA) want the internet radio companies to pay a "royalty" 17 cents (US) if I am not mistaken for every song for every listener of that that song. What that comes to is that if you have 120 people listening when a song comes on jeric would have to pay the record company $20.40 (US) for just that one song! Over an hour there are probably 15 songs which comes to $306.00. This is more than Jeric probably gets in donations in a month. (probably more than 2 months actually). Over the course of 1 day he would have to pay (using the above figures) $7344.00! In short. If the plan for this goes through, Internet radio based out of any country that has signed into the Digital Millenium Copyright Act (DMCA) WILL shut down as nobody can support that sort of extortion.

As an American citizen I have been writing to my congress persons to urge them to fight this and to protect Internet radio but unfortunately they seem to be more concerned with "protecting" the record companies (see other posts on this site for more on what that means) than internet radio so as a pessimist I do not hold much hope. [Frown] I will keep sending the letters and hope and pray that SST is still here a year from now.
