In a distant future, humanity once again is facing the threat of the "Shadow Angels". Mystical creatures who returned after 12.000 years of absence. They attack human cities and kidnap their inhabitants in order to drain their "prana" (vital energy). To fight against them, youngsters with special powers from around the world were gathered and trained to pilot the "vector machines", three ancient ships that together form mankind's ultimate weapon, "Aquarion". The story revolves mainly arround Apollo, a teenager rumored as the reincarnation of Apolonius, a fallen angel who fought against his own kind to protect mankind. Few believe it could be true, but the fact is that dispite his untamed and reckless nature, he proved to be an invaluable asset in the battle against the Shadow Angels.
Genesis of Aquarion shows off Yoko Kanno's continuing development and growth in orchestral writing. If I had to compare it to something she has done before then think of her work for the older Macross series.
Aquarion however has music that fits with the style of the series, a series about old, angel winged Gods and a giant machine that fights to protect mankind. The songs reflect the personality of the characters and share a godlike feeling
The soundtrack isn't just orchestra, there are also image songs on it that were used in the series (image songs are sung songs by artists but not for the purpose of opening or ending, they are used in the show itself to reflect romance, tragedy or a character itself)
Also there is a 2nd soundtrack for this series, but I will post that up here another time together with soundtrack 2 of fafner
