|
California Peeps.
Not going to sundance next year... need a break.
early stage planning for CA trip next August.
Leave Castle Rock early Thursday morning. 5 or 6 am. drive 10 hours to Zion National Park.
Friday drive Zion to LA 7 hours.
Sat movie at Gruman's and John Williams concert at Hollywood Bowl. Party with members of SST.
Sunday morning head up 101 to Monterey. Spend time at the Aquarium end day in San Francisco.
Monday. Fisherman's Wharf, China Town ????
Tuesday, Napa Valley
Wednesday drive Napa to Elko 8 hours
Thursday Elko to home 11 hours....
questions.
Mapquest states that the drive from LA to Monterey is 343 miles and will take 7 hours.... is that accurate?
San Francisco, I am sure that fisherman's wharf and china town are not all day things. I have done Lumbard street. what else is there?
should I just fly into LA rent a car and fly home from San Francisco?
any ideas, suggestions are appreciated. _________________ Try SCE to AUX! |

Hi Istagi. In my view you should add the Muir Woods to your list of things to see in SF. If you have seen redwoods before, you will want to see them again. If you have not see them... you will want to. |

I think this one would be right up your alley Istagi. Lies and Nessy and I went.

Also in chat we were talking about Golden Gate Park and the De Young (not sure what's there now), the Japanese Garden. |

I enjoyed Golden Gate area in SF and a trip to Alcatraz Island.
Not mentioning Amoeba Music Stores in LA and SF
BTW: If you like science stuff there is also Exploratorium in SF (science museum) but I haven't been there so can't tell you if it's cool enough (oh, Andres already mentioned it while I was preparing my post). _________________ <i>"The piano keys are black and white,

Hotel we stayed at with Sirius during 2011 visit to Hollywood and JW Concert:
Exactly opposite The West Bestern Hotel in Hollywood (so very close to the venue) and cheaper than Best Western. It was OK.
Bruiser and Leviathan12 also were at the same hotel. You can ask for their opinion. _________________ <i>"The piano keys are black and white,

Looks great. As Dutchman it sounds a bit strange to give an American tips about this trip
If you are at Zion, you also need to go to Bryce Canyon NP (at least drive to Bryce Point in the ParK)
I think without stops and taking the 101 it will take around 6 hours.
But taking Hwy 1 is much nicer. But between Hollywood and Monterey taking Hwy 1 is more than 9 hours I think, without stops.
And if you are in the Golden Gate Area drive a little north to Sausalito, nice area there.
I do not know if you have done it already, but a trip to Alcatraz is nice. The audio tour is avout 45 minutes and you have some nice views from the Island to see the skyline of SF _________________ That's the beauty of music. They can't take that away from you. (Andy Dufresne)

Not if that Dutchman is an experienced West Coast visitor
@Circle:
All details for the next JWC in Hollywood and coinciding SST-event will be posted in the SST World Tour forum. _________________

Normally those concerts are in the last weekend of August. I (with SST friends) was there the last 4 years. There are many Pictures of those JW Meetings in our SST Gallery
2012 might be a special event since the maestro will celebrate his 80th birthday. It all depends on my budget and plans of other gatherings with the SST Meet & Greet World tour if I can join the Hollywood Bowl Concert again. Anyway if you like John Williams' music it is almost a must to see him there live once .

Ah, that would explain why I've missed it. Burning Man runs through Labor Day, which means I'm usually off to the desert on that last weekend of August. Bummer. |
