The VI Tenerife International Film Music Festival, which will be held from July 7 to 14, renews its commitment with scores with a wide range of concerts and parallel activities

The Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Diego Navarro, will perform the best Hans Zimmer, James Horner, Thomas Newman and Alan Silvestri scores at the Closing Gala Concert.

The VI Tenerife International Film Music Festival (FIMUCITÉ), which will be held from July 7 to 14, sponsored by Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, Canary Islands Government and Santa Cruz and Arona City Councils, will become the venue of the official celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Universal Pictures Studios this year.

With its customary self-improvement spirit and its constant search for new and enhanced contents, this unavoidable appointment with film music has got the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, conducted by composer and FIMUCITÉ director Diego Navarro, to be chosen by the studios to perform live this unique celebration at the Closing Gala Concert on Saturday, July 14, at Auditorio de Tenerife “Adán Martín”. In a musical evening that promises to shake like never before this Canary coliseum, the audience will enjoy a selection of legendary classic scores that have made the Universal Pictures so prestigious worldwide, including the works of acclaimed composers such as Hans Zimmer, James Horner, Thomas Newman or Alan Silvestri.

On Friday, July 13, the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra will play another exclusive concert on the same stage, where the famous composer James Newton Howard’s music will be the main protagonist. This time, the Orchestra will be conducted by Diego Navarro and also by the renowned American conductor, orchestrator and composer Pete Anthony.

But, as the Festival has already proved through its six years history, there will be more surprises apart from the repertoire of the symphonic concerts. On July 7, FIMUCITÉ VI will offer at Auditorio Infanta Leonor in Los Cristianos a concert of the Spanish group Presuntos Implicados. This opening evening, the famous musicians from Murcia will play their latest work, “Banda Sonora”, in which they have expressed the essential feelings music gives to films through the Spanish version of a great number of very well-known themes. It is worth pointing out the Oscar Academy Award winner in 1959, “Manha De Carnaval”, the oldest theme in the album and origin of “bossa nova”.

On July 12, the Big Band de Canarias will play tribute to the legendary composer Henry Mancini at Guimerá Theater in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The genuine Canary band, leaded by the saxophonist Kike Perdomo and the guitarist Yul Ballesteros, will play the best works by the author of unforgettable scores such as “The Pink Panther”, “Peter Gunn” or “Hatari!”.

The parallel activities of the Festival, including screenings and publications, will mainly focus on the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Universal Studios.

History

The Tenerife International Film Music Festival began in 2007 due to the fans growing interest to enjoy a live performance of the scores belonging to some of the most renowned films. Thanks to the excellent outcome of the five previous editions, in which the event has displayed all its ludic and educational potential before very varied audiences (many of which come to the Canary Islands from all over the World), FIMUCITÉ has grown to currently become one of the most selected, successful and celebrated international festivals of its genre.

The Festival also began in 2010 and 2011 to collaborate with prestigious international labels, like Varèse Sarabande, which has already made the Festival and Diego Navarro’s work known through the releasing of several CDs and DVDs. There has been also a very close collaboration with the Krakow Music Festival since last year, when Diego Navarro conducted the prestigious Ausko Orkiestra Kameralna in Poland and received an ovation from more than 4,000 people.

The impact of this event on the specialist press has also reached English-speaking media such as Variety, The Hollywood Reporter or Soundtrack.net, as well as French-speaking ones such as Soundtrack Collector or Underscores. All of them are covering the Festival due to its far-reaching impact on the specialist as well as the general public, which gives an idea of how the event has reached people’s feelings.
