This is a moment I've been waiting for for so many years. An album will be released shortly which features 40 complete episode scores composed by Ron Jones for Star Trek the next generation. It includes tracks which were composed for but not used in the episodes, about 16 hours of music.
There is some fantastic music in this album, some of the best ever written for TV series.
You can pre-order on www.screenarchives.com, there are many listening samples of these great scores. |

My boyfriend (Furyen) and I have ordered this together...with the average cost of a CD $10 I think it is a really good deal...and who wouldn't want more Star Trek music?? ....But they are late shipping it out! _________________ The right song can turn an emperor into a laughing stock, can bring down dynasties. Yeah, $10.- a piece is not bad at all, considering what you get for it. I'm so excited about this, I listened to the samples all day at work and I can't wait until the real thing arrives |

I've already listened to two episodes worth of music, being "The Naked Now", and "Where No One Has Gone Before". In these early episodes, Ron Jones seems to employ more Electronic/Synth instrumentation rather than whats written in later seasons. Hopefully the money will be worth the purchase, as I listen more. Beautiful set design, and packaging, always a plus. _________________ "Two wrongs do not make a right, but three rights make a left"

I'm still waiting for mine. Did you get an e-mail message when it was shipped? So far I haven't received any confirmations.
You're going to find many electronic elements in most of Ron Jones' scores, but he really makes very good use of them in my opinion, like in the episode "Booby Trap" for example, one of my favorites. He used a lot of electronics as opposed to Dennis McCarthy, which I believe is something the producers did not care for too much, but I think it was really great for a series of this kind, it gives the episodes a sort of a futuristic atmosphere. |

I am waiting for mine too. I did not received a confirmation email, but I logged in on the SAE site and there I can see it has been shipped. _________________ That's the beauty of music. They can't take that away from you. (Andy Dufresne)

Even after it arrived yesterday, I still have yet to receive any confirmations, but I suppose you could do as Sirius did and check the website. I know for a fact that they sent out the signed copies first, other than that, not much I can say on the matter. I'm sure you'll get it soon. _________________ "Two wrongs do not make a right, but three rights make a left"

This album currently only has a 3.77 rating on SST, I guess it's not as popular as I had hoped. I wonder though how many people have actually listened to the whole set, which is quite an undertaking I admit . I for sure would not want to miss it. I would be very curious what your favorite tracks are... |

I think the reason why he's got this rating is that some of us have listened too much of the whole set... _________________ There is no problem that can't be solve without any solution |

IMHO: Even if I had listened to the whole pack,I still think a neutral listener finds the music on many points supporting to the scenes instead of a pleasure to listen too. This opinion is however based on hearing single tracks on SST.
I don't feel the urge to request from these cd's as there are so many good moviescores available.
Good to have it on SST, but not for myself _________________

Complete scores are hard. There's often so much music that doesn't work outside of a scene, or is too short to say anything interesting out of context. I had the same problem, it pains me to say, with Batman: The Animated Series. Fortunately, I own that, so I can listen to entire episodes at once. But few tracks work individually, as part of the queue. |

Thanks very much for your opinions Dutchbat and LadyInque. While I do love this album, I also very well understand what you mean. In fact I own this album but now that I think about it I generally always only listen to maybe 10% of the same tracks repeatedly, I guess in this case it's more about selecting the right tracks from the album to keep it interesting, and I guess whoever doesn't own the album wouldn't know which ones they are. Would you say that your opinion is valid for all or most Star Trek series albums or is this more specific to Ron Jones' music? |

Hey, Dave11, thanks for joining the conversation! I'm honestly not familiar with most Star Trek music, but I do know it's a problem I have with a couple of series' albums.
Since you own the album and know it better than I do, certainly, why not write a review for it? It doesn't have to be long, and if you can point out the 10% that really makes good listening, I'm sure the other SSTers would be grateful to you. |
