Diego Navarro: “Mancini, Newton Howard and Universal Pictures Highlights will fill a Historical FIMUCITÉ”

The three big concerts of the 6th edition of this festival, on July 10, at the Guimera Theatre, and on July 13 and 14 at Auditorio de Tenerife “Adán Martín”, will close the only authorized celebration of the legendary American studios to commemorate its centennial

The VI Tenerife International Film Music Festival (FIMUCITÉ), which will be held from July 7 to 14, sponsored by Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, Canary Islands Government and Santa Cruz and Arona City Councils, promises a “historical” appointment with film music, since the island will be the place chosen by the legendary studios Universal Pictures to close the only authorized celebration of its first 100 years.

That is the way the composer and director of this unavoidable appointment with film music, Diego Navarro, presented the three big concerts that will close this 6th edition of FIMUCITÉ. The first one will pay tribute to Henry Mancini at Guimerá Theatre in Santa Cruz, on July 10 at 21:00, performed by Kike Perdomo and the Big Band de Canarias. On the other hand, the two programmed concerts by the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra at Auditorio de Tenerife “Adán Martín” will run through, respectively and at the same hour, the career of the celebrated composer James Newton Howard, on July 13, under the baton of Pete Anthony, and a wide selection of the best Classics from Universal Studios, at the Closing Gala on July 14. In this case, the orchestra conductor will be Diego Navarro himself.

As Navarro said, to the indisputable fact that “we are going to celebrate something that is not common everyday” we have to add the Festival fondness “for achieving a spectrum as wide as possible, in order to satisfy not only the greatest film music lovers but also those less concerned with it”, and “at the moment of defining the repertoire, and choosing which composers and scores will be part of this sixth edition, I sincerely believe we have achieved it again”.

Diego Navarro defined Kike Perdomo as “an extraordinary Canary Islands musician, not only one of the most prestigious in this land, but also one of the most versatile professionals” and, regarding his concert, he said that “Mancini will be an enormous challenge”, reminding the connection of the composer of unforgettable scores such “The Pink Panther” or “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” with jazz: “A very important part of his filmography took elements of this style, so listening to his music at FIMUCITÉ in a Big Band format, will be surely a great experience and a first class spectacle”.

From the celebrated Pete Anthony, Navarro emphasized that he is “one of the most prestigious musicians in Hollywood”, and that he has collaborated “with first class composers such as Marco Beltrami or Danny Elfman”. Navarrro reminds also that at the concert Anthony will conduct on July 13, the audience will listen, in world premiere suites, to pieces composed by James Newton Howard for films such as “The Sixth Sense”, “Signs”, “King Kong” or “Peter Pan”.

Finally, it is worth pointing out that, at the Closing Gala Diego Navarro will conduct, the themes selected will include some of the eternal classics from Universal Pictures, such as “Dracula”, “The Wolfman” or “The Mummy”, together with recent films such as “Lorax” or well-known scores such as the prestigious “Back to the Future” or “Conan the Barbarian”.

Ticket sales

To conclude, Navarro said that the tickets for all the concerts are already for sale. This year, the festival has opened the sales with greater anticipation, and prices are really affordable, between 5 and 30 euros. Tickets for Guimerá Theatre are available through www.generaltickets.com, and www.entradas.com for the concerts at Auditorio de Tenerife.
