Istagi:

While I am not a religious man, I will keep you and Jonelle in my thoughts and prayers. I know how hard of a struggle this situation is for you, and as one who lost his partner of 6 years to brain cancer, I share the grief, pain, and suffering that you must be going through right now.

Please, keep us posted as to her condition, what the doctors say, and if there is anything at all that we can do to make this time any easier on you, please, let us know.

Keeping you in my heart!

Istagi,
We don't know each other, but my heart goes out for you and your wife. I've seen people survive much worse then what you are describing, so I feel confident saying "it will get better and she will recover 100%".

G'luck & prayers for you both.

Istagi, I'm so sorry to learn such bad news.

Thanks for all the well wishes. right now she is most upset about not being able to go to JW but is adamant that I go.

today we meet with the surgeon and schedule the procedure to remove the 3 tumors. she should go under the knife later this week or early next week.

also filling out paperwork for AFLAC. We are gonna milk that duck for all we can. ducks have nipples right?

and now the news.

Jonette and David attended a meeting with the initial surgeon yesterday. we were given pretty much the same information but that is good a second hearing cleared up a lot for us.

so now we discovered that we will also need to meet with a plastic surgeon for reconstructive surgery.

Jonette has decided to go with a double mastectomy and reconstruction. she met with the plastic surgeon today and now they two surgeons need to coordinate their schedules.

Jonette will go in, have the breasts removed and reconstructed in the same operation. It will require 1 night in the hospital and then a month of recovery.

still no date for the procedure.

Thanks for the update, Istagi. I really think she'll be fine, just difficult to anticipate.

Double masectomy... didn't expect *that*. Sad

But I was thinking... maybe Jonette *can* accompany you to the JW concert?
If the operation is in early August, with only one night in hospital; add a month of recuperation time... maybe she could go.
After all, you're not traveling to some place in the middle of nowhere, but to another large city that has such things as doctors and hospitals in case an emergency happens.

Even if it is *your* dream to attend the concert and not hers; originally she was planning to go with you.
Maybe it would get her mind off of things for a little bit?

I know nothing about breast cancer and the treatments involved, so just in case (as is likely) that I'm talking out of my a$$, I want to apologize if I'm being insensitive and/or just plain stupid.

alien, she has already asked me to have Cantus take her place.

she is not sure she can handle all the walking and activities. she wants me to go and will take some quiet time for herself.

you are not being stupid or an ass. she will come with me next year.

D day is set.

Jonette goes in for surgery on Sept 5th. she is wavering between single or double mastectomy. I will support whatever decision she will make. Recovery will take at least 2 weeks. I will be there for her to make sure she rests but also make sure she gets out of the house a bit. I am thinking of short walks, picnic lunches, drives in the mountains, maybe a movie or two, that kind of stuff.

Chemo will probably start in November we will not know what kind or for how long till it is determined if and how far the cancer has spread in her lymph nodes, only surgery can determine that. I pray that it has not spread. The ductile cancer is relatively low risk but the lobular tumor is extremely suspect.

The lobular cancer is Her2nu active, that was until recently an almost certain death sentence but there is a gene therapy that is designed to target cancer that is her2nu positive. all 3 tumors are hormone positive so those are good things.

so more bad news for Jonette delivered yesterday.

more tumors were found in the other breast. Looks like she has no choice other than double mastectomy. she was already leaning that way but this just made it official and not negotiable.

it hit her pretty hard yesterday. she would cry and then laugh about a shirt that she wants. it says. "Yes they are fake, my real ones tried to kill me."

surgery date is still set for Sept 5th.

bad news today.

Pathology report came in. there were tumors in the lymph nodes on the right side. The initial pathology during the surgery missed them. Left side was clear.

that means.

6 weeks of daily radiation treatment Monday through Friday
a year of taking Herceptin
and a full course of Chemo.

Jonette is not pleased and would probably be falling down drunk if she were not on pain meds.

we are both going out tonight and have pie. I may decide to drink heavily.

If Jonette loses her hair I will shave my head as well.
