I voted John Williams, but it's really a tie. I also Love Elfman.
Bet you all thought I would say Howard Shore. I am not that shallow. _________________ 'He looked at her, and being a man whom pity deeply stirred, it seemed to him that her loveliness amid her grief would pierce his heart.' —Faramir's thoughts on Éowyn |

How shallow are you then?
I have to go with Morricone, followed by Williams for classic Hollywood, then Thomas Newman for modern Hollywood. |

For the record, I do love Jimmy Horner's cds (they're wonderful as freesbies so your dog can fetch them)
Not a favorite composer at all, too many to list here.

Francel, that's the type of statement I expect more out of a newbie troll than a "professional" in the industry. |

My dear Cocles,
The above statement was all in good fun assuming most of you guys by now know of my feelings regarding Mr. Horner and his output.
As a "professional" in the industry, with the passing of the years I've learned not to take the film music biz seriously since once you're inside it you learn the big joke all of it is.
However, I do take my job as seriously as everybody else but that doesn't mean we can't have fun with it as well. If anyone cares to comment his/her personal feelings about Mr. Horner, I think that deserves another thread around here.
So cheer up, man.

I couldn't possibly choose one favorite. Depending on my mood, one or two will be my choice for the moment, but I'll choose someone different the next moment. This site has definitely given me a lot more to listen to from composers I don't have in my collection. _________________ All I ask is for a chance to prove that money can't buy happiness. |

Note that Francel went back to a small rank since he had to start his profile all over again. Maybe that provoked some newbie syndrome or was it just the fact I pronounced the H word?... _________________ Always wondered what a French photo album could look like?

Passing of the years? You're what, late twenties, early thirties? As you like to say yourself, "Gimme a break."
Fact is, this a soundtrack forum, not some industry spritzer. You're surrounded by Horner fans and know it, so I can only guess you're making such comments to try to get them riled up.[/quote] |

My number one: John Barry
second place: James Horner
third place: Jerry Goldsmith
and last but not least: John Williams
I'm that a huge fan that I buy all their work, so I have a huge collection
of soundtracks (c.d. AND vinyl)
following composers I like too: Alan Sivestri, Bear McCreary, Michael Giacchino, Vangelis and Ennio Moricone.
But not so that I buy all their work.
here is my complete list my entire collection:

If it has to be only one, it's James Newton Howard for me.
But i'll be thankfull forever to Howard Shore that he got me into score music with The Lord of the Rings |
