Some good suggestions on this list. Although I thought Fort Wagner was just a retooled Carmina Burana.
I have found that my favorite new Choral CD's has been Rachmaninoff's Vespers. I'm actually writing these 65 minute pieces into a script I'm currently working on because they are so subtle and powerful.
On the subject of Menken's "Sanctuary", I guess I'm going to have to give it a listen. I'm not a big fan of his work, but I'll give it a try. |

horner's Epitaph To War in Glory, maybe not necessarily "ground-shaking" but phenomenally moving and powerful nonetheless. and yes lord of the rings, specifically if I had to choose one it'd be Foundations Of Stone from two towers, especially that part towards the end where it just gets so awesome.
good thread, I love choral work
edit: I noticed you have Forth Eorlingas there from two towers, Isengard Unleashed is very good too =] |

I wouldn't call it ground shaking, but one of the most beautiful choral tracks I've heard was the theme to a mediaeval movie called The Falcon (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0082356) which I saw ages ago. I've been looking for a copy of it, but it's really hard to find, and I doubt that the soundtrack is available either |

one of my all time favorites is "The Egg Travels" by James Newton Howard from the movie "Dinosaure". Not a whole lot of choral action there, but theres enough... |

You should add Basil Poledouris - Conan the Barbarian - Riddle of Steel/Riders of Doom. Good times right there |

Though you already have it on your list, Verdi's "Totenmesse" (Requiem) is the supreme choral work.
A couple of weeks ago I actually played it (was 1st violin). The concert took place in a large Cathedral, and the sound was just overwhelming. I have never experienced anything like it - just incredible.

Mikkel |
