Just wanted to open a discussion of this year's nods and snubs.
I am scratching my head over why Motherless Brooklyn was totally ignored.

Let's get the nods up there:
ORIGINAL SCORE
Joker
Little Women
Marriage Story
1917
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker
ORIGINAL SONG
"I Can't Let You Throw Yourself Away," Toy Story 4
"(I'm Gonna) Love Me Again," Rocketman
"I'm Standing With You," Breakthrough
"Into The Unknown," Frozen II
"Stand Up," Harriet
I have heard exactly one thing from this list. OK, two, but I have no memory of the Rocketman song. I didn't care so much for "Into the Unknown," at least not against "Show Yourself," but maybe the latter is less of an earworm? I don't know how these decisions are made.
At least a woman got a nod in the score category, which is pretty rare. _________________ I have a book coming out. Wanna see it?

Re the Original Song noms,
I like Rnady Newman but don't think this was one of his best.
The Elton John one fits in perfectly as another Elton John track in the movie, but that makes it not seem original or memorable.
I haven't seen the movies for the two "Stand" songs but just listening to them on YouTube they don't really (ahem!) "stand out" for me.
I also haven't seen Frozen II, but "Into the Unknown" seems to reasonate well both in the in-film clip and the PATD version,
So I guess "Into the Unknown" would get my vote.*
* That puts the jinx on that one then! _________________ If you can't stand the heat, don't tease a dragon |

The Best Original Song category is ridiculous to me. What does this „best” mean? Should it be catchy, epic, moving, politically correct or should fit the movie perfectly?
All these 5 songs are mediocre. Okay, maybe except ’Into the Unknown’ but I like Panic! At the Disco/Brendon Urie’s version not Idina Menzel’s one.
As Disney rules nowadays, Frozen (the highest-grossing animated film all the time with only 1 nomination) gets Oscar for the song, Toy Story - for the best animated feature film, I bet. |

wait it is dragons against toy story again? fells like 2010 or 2011 all over again...
I cannot really say something about the scores, as I have only seen and heard SW, and that was nothing new to me. no real innovation or anything similar. which was great because it is a star wars movie, but nothing I would give an "outstandig prize" for, what the oscars are regarded as. or were.
Never cared about the songs in the movies, I propably never will. |

Aloha and Mahalo for all your posts!
I am also glad that woman is nominated again. I may have to hear all the nominated songs again before I can say anything about them.
Anyone know if there was an original song in "All is True"? I loved the score to that. Will check on this.
None of these songs are the caliber of "This Is Me". I agree about Disney songs of the past few years. The Sherman Brothers seem to have taken all the good songs with them.
Happy listening! _________________ If music be the food of love, play on,
