What? SST on cell phone? Shocked

1. Get a Symbian S60 enabled cell phone, preferable one of the recent NOKIA phones

2. Get an unlimited data plan from a 3G (UMTS) carrier

3. Go to http://opensource.nokia.com/projects/s60internetradio/ and install the player on your cell phone

4. Save the .pls file from the Listen page here, edit it to replace domain name with the IP address (player can't do resolving) and load it into the phone to E:\Shoutcast. For example, hi.streamingsoundtracks.com have to be replaced with 209.9.229.206

5. Listen!

Cool

Works like a charm. Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

Post here how it works for you, especially if you're VIP and have access to 128kbps stream. It buffers from time to time for me, I guess the O2 in my country don't have the 3G network finetuned yet Laughing

Nice find, PavLucistnik!

I do not own such a sophisticated phone, but it sounds promising for the future Wink

Sounds great. Just one question: what's a cell phone?

oh yeah, we've been able to do this for a long time. It definetely helps to have 3G service. I use my dash (cell phone) to connect and play the stream, then plug it into my car radio as I drive home. Makes my drive home a lot more interesting!

Wow! I've been wishing that I could take SST with me especially while sitting on the boring train on my commute home! I don't believe my phone is quite that sophisticated but I'll definately check into upgrading it. Will be cool to be able to use it in the car! Thanks for the tips! btw I read an article in the Wall Street Journal about the internet radio stations going mobile and it seems people are out there trying to make this happen. If anyone is interested I can post the link to it here.

This is so neat and you guys are so technically savvvy!

Angela12 Very Happy Wink

As more and more people are aware that cellphones can do so much more than make phone calls, and the technology improves here in the states, this is something to think about for the future. I see more and more people walking around with treos, blackberries, and smartphones. Usually its so they can get to their email and myspace, but there is a growing number of people using their phones for more than that. With the introduction of the iphone, which introduced internet on cellphones to a lot, the market for these devices has nowhere to go but up. More phones are being equipped with wifi chips, more cities are being blanketed with wifi, and cell phone carriers are improving their data services to get faster downloads.
Jeric's links above work on symbian phones, which are more common in Europe and Asia. Those areas also have cellphone internet data services which are 2-3 years ahead of the states (ie. faster and more coverage). Over here in the states symbian phones aren't as common as windows mobile and palm phones (mine is a windows phone). To listen on these you need different 3rd party software such as tcpmp or use the WMP version that comes on windows mobile phones.
Although the demand for listening on your cellphone is probably extremely low compared to listening at work/home on your computer, 2-3 years from now, with a more tech-savy aware generation and more devices/services available, the demand is likely to grow. A mobile version of this website, with quick access to listening links and the forums could be something to think about for the future. Jeric you may want to jump on that m.streamingsoundtracks.com domain.

Don't want to start a flamewar over iPhone, but if you plan on using mobile internet, avoid iPhone. It only supports GPRS (1999 technology), which can pull down only 60 kbps on download. In bigger cities and on highways you might be lucky to hit EDGE equipped nodes, which can go, according to AT&T own website, 75-135 kbps. I bit short for full SST quality.

Anything that can do Shoutcast + MP3. All smartphones should be able to do that these days, as you can install additional software. For the dumbphones, well, I don't know.
