Personally, I support open source and stuff, and thus I tend to use OGG. But in this case, I'm not trying to advocate it purely because it's not proprietary. However, it has a feature known as "bit-stripping" where the bitrate of an OGG file can be reduced on-the-fly.
Thus, the server could store 1 high-quality OGG file for each song and "bit-strip" it down to the transmission quality (or qualities) when it's played. And I think its quality is comparable to that of mp3PRO. That's up to you, but I think bit-stripping could be used (although, I have no idea if SAM2 supports that...)
So this isn't just another "ogg rules!" post, I hope. |
