I definitely prefer subtitles. It's original, plus I can try (emphasis on try) to learn more of the foreign language! :D

Definitely dubbed voices.
I can either read the subtitles or watch the actors, not both simultaneously. If I wanted to read, I would skip the movie and get the book.

If the movie is in a spoken language I can understand (norwegian/swedish/danish/english) I prefer to not have subtitles at all and no dubbing, but if the movie is in another language (french/chinese/etc.) I prefer to have it subtitlted.
Dubbing ruins the movie experience with lip sync problems and it doesn't conform with the directors vision.
I have no problem reading the subtitles while keeping focus on the acting.

Subtitles. ALWAYS keep the original sound work.

I HATE dubs, because of the obvious mismatch between the words and the actor's mouth movements, but also because the people they get to dub usually can't capture the nuances of the spoken lines. It always sounds as if they are reading it rather than acting in any way. And it's interesting to hear another language.

Well, it's a lose lose situation, I cannot stand subtitles... reading while your watching a movie? are you kidding me?
Dubbed audio, is most of the time cheesey, but I would prefer that, cause I hate watching movies where I have to read to understand what's going on. It takes my eyes away from the visuals, which is important...

I prefer subtitles. Foreign language or not.

As a result of playing French Horn for years and years in both symphonic and orchestral settings, professional and scholastic, my hearing has been damaged slightly. I often have trouble discerning words when people mumble, or there's a level of background noise. Also, timbre of voices can have an effect, as well.

However, even if trumpets and trombones hadn't blatted my ears into a damaged state, I'd still prefer subtitles, because I feel it's more authentic.

definately subtitles, the original language is part of the atristry of the piece. lips moving different than the voice coming out of the mouth is definately more distracting than having to read words at the bottom of the screen. also, when voices are chosen for voice-overs, they always choose the dumbest sounding people, high voices for the girls, low voices for the guys and then scratchy ones for the evil people and whiny crackly voices for the older people. very VERY cheesy and the movie looses the quality of the dailogue when it is dubbed.

I've actually made a habit of putting subtitles on movies that AREN'T foreign! Sometimes it's difficult to hear what they're saying anyway (heavy accents/mumbling), or perhaps the plot is difficult to understand, so reading the dialogue makes it easier for me. I remember my first subbed vhs tape (i was around 12) was Sailor Moon SuperS, and I was so bummed that I had to read what they were saying, because I thought it would be in english. But after watching Sailor Moon in the original language and without any "censoring" made me realize how awesome it was and I watched that thing SO many times...I became used to it and now prefer subtitles over anything. :)
