John Lunn - Shetland
This Dunn.
By: PeteC
Date: 31 Jul 2019
Rating:

I realize that it is of the later age in scoring. Going past the traditional bias, WHICH I HAVE, this is a score which captures the image and that is what this whole genre is about. Of course, I am partial to the use of acoustic instruments and of the traditional category, however, I must say that Dunn has found his place in marriage to these visual memories. Hats off to Dunn.

Rupert Gregson-Williams, Joseph Bishara - Aquaman
A good hybrid of electronics and orchestral music
By: Caliburn
Date: 15 Apr 2019

The one thing that I like the most about this score is the balance between electronics and orchestral music, which gives the music a modern twist, while still keeping the score melodic and a pleasure to listen to. The Mother theme (it can be heard in "It Wasnt Meant To Be") and the Arthur theme really stand out. The movie itself was very entertaining, and I think the music was one of the reasons for this.

James Newton Howard - Red Sparrow
Only three tracks interesting
By: Caliburn
Date: 14 Apr 2019

While I was watching the movie, I caught myself looking at my watch to see if the intermission was near: the movie dragged on a lot. That is exactly how I feel about this score: It has a fantastic opening, a not so interesting middle and a wonderful ending.

If you want to request something, I recommend, the first and the last two tracks.

John Paesano - Spider-Man (Original Video Game Soundtrack)
One of my personal favorites of 2018

I think this score is a master piece. It is full of leitmotifs and is a perfect example how melodies can be used to tell a story.

Benj Pasek & Justin Paul - Greatest Showman, The
Grows on you .... a lot!
By: Dragonel
Date: 11 Apr 2019
Rating:

First time I watched the film, I thought the soundtrack was okay but nothing special although I appreciated the visuals of the big showstopping numbers and Hugh Jackman dancing on the bar in "The Other Side". But the more I heard the songs after that, the more I started to like them and appreciate the intricacies of the words and different parts entwining together. And when I re-watched the film on a plane, I found I was waiting for the songs and not as interested in the story.
Now it is one of my favorite albums, and maybe my favorite soundtrack of any musical.

"This is Me" and "Greatest Show" are the big numbers that were most popular, but I find "From Now On", "Come Alive" and the aforementioned "The Other Side" are as impressive and I am still pleasantly surprised by "Never Enough" and "A Million Dreams". Which leaves "Tightrope" and "Rewrite the Stars" as the lesser tracks on the album. I don't think this is down to the performers they just seem a little less impassioned or unique and more just respectable pop songs.

Trevor Jones, Randy Edelman, Clannad - Last Of The Mohicans, The
Promontory is the best!

Trevor Jones created a great soundtrack for a great film. Promontory is a fan favorite track at SST. We all love it!

I used to figure skate and chose this track for one of my programs. I have great memories of skating to it--it's majestic and emotional. :)

Michael Giacchino - Incredibles 2
A great continuation from the first one.
By: Caliburn

Michael Giacchino continues the vibe of the first movie with this one. If you liked the last one, you would like this one as well. Also check out the new theme for Elastigirl.

Benjamin Wallfisch - King Of Thieves
Short but fun heist movie score.

Like the title says, the score is only like 40 minutes. It contains fun heist music. Definitely worth a listen.

Anne Dudley - Elle
Short but powerful
By: Caliburn
Date: 16 Aug 2018
Rating:

The score is one complete package of just beautiful, but sometimes tense, melody lines. The score is written almost entirely for strings, with other instruments in a supporting role. My favorite tracks are "Main Titles," "Primal Scream," Just Good Friends." Fresh Paint" and "A Different Ending."
