My novel(la) got shortlisted at a publisher! They had an open call, and my book is one of the 50 that they are currently considering. So it promises nothing (what does, short of a contract?) but it's a little win. And I need it, because a friend of mind has had a bunch lately and I'm trying not to be envious, but oooh. _________________ I have a book coming out. Wanna see it?

I shouldn't have said anything. I got the rejection email this morning. They like it. "Though well-written and original, it's just not what we're looking for at the moment," they said. So it's a positive rejection, but it still stings.
It's still in consideration at two publishers, but I'm running out of people willing to look at quirky novella-length fiction in verse. If nothing happens in, I don't know, another six months, I think I may try my luck at Inkshares, though that would effectively kill my chances with any traditional publisher. This is hard.
Gotta update my signature line. _________________ I have a book coming out. Wanna see it?

Sorry to hear that, LadyI but at least it shows a glimmer or hope _________________ If you can't stand the heat, don't tease a dragon |

Thanks, Dragonel, but glimmers don't go as far as they used to. I finally queried a publisher that's had my book for over seven months. They responded with:

It is an astonishing piece of work but we cannot see a way to publish it. |
There's a lot of issues going on in my family right now. It's eating up a lot of my RAM. I can't concentrate on anything. I'm having trouble writing new stuff. And I can't find any way to be happy about this latest rejection, even with the word "astonishing" in it. _________________ I have a book coming out. Wanna see it?

I feel like novels in general are hard to publish, because not many people buy them. I'm not sure about this, though. I do know that I personally only buy coursebooks (for uni), topical books (works about video games mostly) and classics. And for the last category I usually just borrow from a friend or the library. |

I got an acceptance! One of my stories is going to be in an anthology with the likes of Cat Rambo and Seanan McGuire!
Of course, because nothing is easy, this only happens if the Kickstarter makes its goal. So if you felt like throwing some support their way, here's the link: https://bit.ly/2WoFlLp _________________ I have a book coming out. Wanna see it?

The "in verse" part makes me curious. I'd love to read your novel, LadyInque. Is there any way to help you getting it published? (like the kickstarter thing for the story) |

plus1, thanks for the encouragement. Right now the novella is at one more publisher, and if they say no, I move on to phase three. That might mean I self-publish, or do Inkshares, a crowd-funding/trad publisher hybrid. If that happens, your support would be appreciated and easily quantifiable.
As for reading it, I put .4% of it on my website, where there's also links to other stuff I've written and a newsletter you can sign up for. If you're interested, PM me and I'll send you the URL. That goes for anyone reading this, BTW. _________________ I have a book coming out. Wanna see it?

It filled! The Kickstarter met its goal! Now if all goes to plan, I'll be in a real, live book in November, with authors who have won awards and stuff, or at least published enough to have fan bases. _________________ I have a book coming out. Wanna see it?
