Miracle on 34th Street (1994 & 1947) - Bruce Broughton; Cyril Mockridge
&
Title: Miracle on 34th Street (1947) / Come to the Stable (1949) / Miracle on 34th Street (1994)
Composer: Cyril Mockridge; Bruce Broughton
Label: La-La Land Records
Catalog: #LLLCD 1325
Date: 2014
Country: USA
This is a NEW 2-disc release by La-La Land Records, especially for the 2014 holiday season. It combines two previous albums
(actually three different film scores), one by Intrada and one from Percepto, which have both been out of print for some time.
About Previous
Miracle on 34th Street (1947) is the original b&w holiday classic, starring Maureen O'Hara, Edmund Gwenn, and a young Natalie
Wood. The score was released previously on CD in 2002 by the now-defunct Percepto label, as part of a split album with another
Cyril Mockridge composition, Come to the Stable (1949). Now OOP, used copies run in the neighborhood of $50-$60 on Amazon.
See also Soundtrack.net for more info including content samples.
Miracle on 34th Street (1994) is the full-color remake starring Elizabeth Perkins and little Mara Wilson, with of course Kris Kingle
played by Richard Attenborough who passed away earlier this year. While the pop soundtrack enjoyed a wide release and is still
fairly easy to find secondhand, the score by Bruce Broughton was issued only as a limited edition of 1500 on the Intrada label
in 1994 and has long since sold out. Even used copies have been in the $75-$150 range on Amazon for some time.
About This New Release
This 2014 compilation release from La-La Land Records includes both a reissue of the 1994 film's score as published previously
by Intrada, marking its 20th anniversary, plus a new digital remaster of the Percepto album with the two 1940s scores. LLLR
lists it at just $19.98 new, and with Black Friday & similar holiday sales around the corner, soon maybe even less. (Regardless
that's still considerably cheaper than the high-priced OOP copies of either title, let alone trying to find both!)
However, note that this new combo release has a limited pressing of just 2000 units. It may sell out quickly over the holiday
season. It would be nice to snag one for the SST catalog while these hard-to-come-by titles are briefly available again.

This release has been unavailable for some time but I noticed that La-La Land has it back in stock again now. They've revamped their website since I made the original post above, so I've corrected/updated the links, but all other info is still the same. |
