Are you one of those people who don't believe in nicknames or shortened forms of names, banana? (and out of curiosity, is your horrendously long handle in spite of those who you don't want to shorten it?)
What is the big deal? If something is commonly referred to by the simple majority by a certain name then that name becomes a nickname for the item- authorized or not.
Obviously you knew exactly what was being referred to in this instance, even though you do not acknowledge that "OGG" is an acceptable nickname. Therefore, "OGG" still serves its purpose as a nickname, understood by the common majority of people.

Such is the way that things are known.
This happens to everything in life.
Let's take for instance Mr. Murky. He has his own idea of who he is, but that does not complete the picture. We too, have our idea of who he is, and that cannot be changed. He did not authorize us to have an opinion of what type of person he may be, yet we formed it, it's there, and it cannot be changed.
Vorbis, OGG, Ogg, that-non-mp3-codec ... whatever. We all knew what we were referring to, and therefore, the purpose of the name was served.
I may not have explained the two concepts quite the way I'd like. The point I'm trying to get across is Vorbis *is* OGG. Just like Murky *is* how he presents himself within the forums.
Bah! Now that doesn't even make sense to me as I write it. {Circle *is* confused }.
Cocles, you're better at getting out in words matters such as these, can you make any sense of what I'm trying to say up there? |

MP3Pro is great when MP3 is the original format. That's why I use those streams at school. However, at home I cannot use the MP3Pro plugin even if I wanted to. Thus, I prefer Vorbis because it sounds better than listening to MP3Pro without the plugin. |
Now see, you sound a lot more civil here.

As for that Vorbis junk, I [am one of the few who] feel names were given for a reason. Thus, nicknames, especially unauthorized nicknames, shouldn't be used. |

Besides, it's much more fun to say ogg than vorbis. Try it. "ogg"
For more fun, you can stretch it out: ooooooogg.
See? Isn't that much more fun that arguing?
Why can't we all just get along?
These forums would be such a happy place if we'd all just hold hands and sing songs....
Sorry, started to tear up there...
