Ok all if you're one of those people who likes to run around saying how all John Williams stuff sounds the same, or why can't he write something creative, then I think you need to listen to the new Harry Potter CD. Now before you can say 'hay Graywolf did you listen to the first track ... sounds the same to me', pipe down junior it's called a light motif Wagner was using them in opera's some 500 years ago. IMHO this CD is completely different from the others, and the best of the lot. Most of it doesn't even sound similar to other stuff he's done.
Now if you want to disagree with me thats fine, but use a little common sense don't mention the names of the tracks and give away any spoilers to people who may not have read the book (darn muggles).
Lastly if you haven't picked up your copy yet do us a favor and order thru one of Jeric's affiliate links, every little bit helps.

I absolutely agree with you, bashing one of the big boys is just plain (newbee) stupid. He never copies, he can use a certain style again. But that is what most composer do now and then. The Azkaban score is very different from his recent work, and JW is apparantly exploring more of his darkside. |

Not to mention that his score from Catch Me if you Can was also a clear demonstration of his ability to stay fresh and creative even at this late stage in his career. |

Mr. Williams was one of a couple of composers that really started the whole soundtrack obsession for me. Listing my all time favourite by him would be difficult - there are so many.

Catch Me If You Can really
was a step out that I like.

Well said. Catch Me If You Can was a great score, as were all of his other ones.
I do know one thing, if it weren't for John Williams, I probably would not be here today. He is the main reason that I got into soundtracks. His many touching and moving score, as well as his darker ones, have inspired me beyond words. He is a great composer. I suggest that you go out and buy John William's Greatest Hits: 1969-1999. If you still think that he sucks, well then that is your problem. |

Okay, none of those soundtracks sound the same to me. I like them all - am I missing something? _________________ http://allthingstolkienandlewis.blogspot.com/
