So I guess, there's no way to fix this, isn't it? _________________ Always wondered what a French photo album could look like?

I'm pretty sure it's possible to fix with some fancy DHTML. For text/links it's just a matter of color and images could be shown only when hovering them. But seriously, how much does a smiley spoil? Images can be linked to and links can have custom non-spoilerish text. _________________ Who is General Failure and why is he reading my disk? |

I know it doesn't really matter but last time I wrote a spoiler for a movie and almost gave the key of the spoiler by the smiley only. Good thing I checked. So that's why I asked. _________________ Always wondered what a French photo album could look like?

One possibility would be for the code that turns the smiley text (':' followed by ')', etc.) to leave the text as-is in a spolier instead of turning it into the reference to the graphic image. |

idd, but sometimes you need them to clarify the tone of your message _________________ 'He looked at her, and being a man whom pity deeply stirred, it seemed to him that her loveliness amid her grief would pierce his heart.' —Faramir's thoughts on Éowyn |

well, i don't know all those, which would be why i don't get what you are saying half the time
the other half would be that your dutch _________________ 'He looked at her, and being a man whom pity deeply stirred, it seemed to him that her loveliness amid her grief would pierce his heart.' —Faramir's thoughts on Éowyn |
