JERIC, that sounds like an excellent idea. I remember when someone would request a commentary and people were all confused asking, "is this a track, or what?"
Just imagine what a commentary on Gigli would sound like...
John Powell: So I wondered what kind of music would tell us, "Jennifer Lopez is playing a lesbian love interest of Ben Affleck."
On second thought, we probably don't need to know about that, but the other commentaries should sound very interesting. |
lol. Yeah, I'd agree, it would be really cool to have a section of SST that focuses on this topic. |

Hollow Man - isolated score and audio commentary by Jerry Goldsmith (not on the Special Edition Superbit version)
Hellboy - isolated score and audio commentary by Marco Beltrami (3-Disc Director's Cut-Edition)
Alien (20th Anniversary Edition) - The complete score isolated, plus alternate cues for original scenes as well as brief comments from Ridley Scott (audio commentary) on how wonderful Goldsmith's music is but no reference to why so little of it features.
Final Destination - also an isolated score and audio commentary by composer Shirley Walker. |

You're warmly welcome, but actually Shirley Walker isn't represented visually on the DVD commentary.
Only audio!
But she has some interesting remarks and anecdotes about the filmmusic business and recording sessions. |

Edward Scissorhands - Isolated score with commentary by the great Danny Elfman.
Also - the 'qatsi' series (Koyannisqatsi, Powaqqatsi, Naqoyqatsi) all have interviews involving Philip Glass in the special features. _________________ "Love keeps her in the air when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens, makes her a home."

X-Men 2 (X2) - 2 disc edition, there's also a short feature about the music, the recording sessions and some commentaries by John Ottman.
Blade II - the Making of "The Blood Pact" also features impressions from the score recording sessions with statements about the orchestration and further funny sidelines/anecdotes by Marco Beltrami and Co. & of course the unbelieveably funny Guillero del Toro with his comments during the recordings. |

Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (Special Edition) - Goldenthal has a commentary track for the entire movie. Very insightful, if sparse. _________________ Theremin - yes. Waterphone - no! |

A Beautiful Mind - Two-Disc Awards Edition: Interview with James Horner, Charlotte Church, Ron Howard, and Brian Grazer. Includes footage of Horner conducting the orchestra. Approximately seven minutes. _________________ "You have been chosen to represent Earth in Mortal Kombat. Be warned. Although your souls are protected from Shao Kahn's evil: your lives are not. I have Star Trek: The Motion Picture The Collector's Edition and they have an excellent feature about the score by Jerry Goldsmith including an alternate main them that was rejected by Robert Wise.
All three of Lord Of The Rings Extended Editions have features on the score for each film including the new music composed for the Extended Editions. |
