mmm, I'm currently reading it... (yeah, well, what a scoop )
...and to be honest, I had higher expectations about it! But hey, I didn't finish it yet... _________________ "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe" - Blade Runner |

Slowly rereading Watership Down. I read it before but was too young to understand everything. It seems better this time around
I also just finished Angels and Demons and the Da Vinci Code. Can't wait for DVC movie! _________________ The journey of one thousand miles begins with a single step. |

I add myself to the list, and I´m not sure if I´m gonna read it after reading "Digital Fortress". The image of Spain that he gives in his book bothered me so much
Now I´m reading "I,Claudius" from Robert Graves again after a few years.Brilliant book!I´m thinking about buying the TV series _________________ Fear is the mind killer |

Perhaps "I haven't read Da Vinci Code and I'm proud of it" should have it's own thread |

Yeah! Bp and Irulan, you can add me to the club. I'm innately suspicious of anything that's popular in a runaway sort of way. |

I am also not reading The Da Vinci Code. Oh well. I'm not going to read it just because the movie is coming out, either. One thing I totally abhore is when a movie comes out and then they replace the book's original cover with the movie poster cover.
And if you saw Memoirs of a Geisha and thought "Hey, I should read that book!" my advice to you is to read something else. Really. It's not that great. I read 3-4 books a week (or more) and it was so blah. Read Daughter of Fortune by Isabelle Allende instead. Now that should have been made into a movie!
Okay...what I'm reading/read currently:
Uglies and Pretties by Scott Westerfield. These are Young Adult Fiction, but very insteresting. If you liked 1984, Brave New World, and the Giver you will like these. It's a trilogy, but the third book isn't out yet.
Twilight...yet another YAF. This one is about a girl who falls in love with a vampire. haha...it's actually really, really good. Also part of a trilogy, but the other two are not yet released.
Now I'm reading another YAF by Meg Cabot called Avalon High. I love all of Meg Cabot's work.
I love brainless, thoughtless fun books because I read all the classics in all my zillion college English courses.
Please let me know of brainless, thoughtless fun books... |

Arlin- I agree on the whole book-cover-movie-poster thing. I can't stand that. I read Memoirs a long time ago and though it was good, yes, but you're right, not great. I read the Da Vinci Code because my mom told me it was good. Last time that happened she was referring to Harry Potter, so I figured, hey, she didn't stear me wrong before! _________________ The journey of one thousand miles begins with a single step. |

I guess I'll join the Da-Vinci-Code-unread club too.
Currently trying out some new authors, and an old favorite.
Frederik Pohl- The Space Merchants
Jack McDevitt- Polaris
Lois McMaster Bujold- Mirror Dance _________________ "Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a bananna." -Groucho Marx

You will be the same person in five years as you are today, except for the people you meet and the books you read. - Charles Jones |
My old boss said that to me some years ago and I've always thought it quite profound. I have made an effort to keep reading, though with some difficulty: I must be the slowest reader on the planet.
I'm not sure why, but I've always found the process of reading to be a toil rather than a pleasure, even though I do feel immense satisfaction when I finish a book and acknowledge the value of it to my own development.
The book I am currently reading is The Rediscovery Of Man by Cordwainer Smith.
This book is No. 10 in a series of science fiction classics published under the SF Masterworks brand. Orion keep pumping them out and I'm trying to catch up. I've read about half of the 60-odd titles released so far.
It is an interesting story about the effects on mankind and civilisation once humans achieve immortality. Some of the future speculation is a bit fanciful, but I particularly like the story's structure: this future universe is slowly revealed in several short stories, which is very effective.
I'll report back to SST when I start a new SF masterwork. _________________ "After dark all cats are leopards." - Native American Proverb |
