Wynton Marsalis to headline Montreal Jazz Festival
Behind the Scenes
By Antracia Merrill-Moorings
12 Days Of Jazz: The 28th Montreal Jazz Festival, to be held June 28 through July 8 in various spots around the Canadian city, has recently announced Wynton Marsalis as a headliner, along with the Roy Haynes Quartet and world music stars Manu Chao, Cesaria Evora and Seu Jorge. Marsalis will take the stage with his Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and Ghanaian drum master Yacub Addy, according to Reuters. The New Orleans trumpeter joins previously announced performers the Dave Holland Quintet, Holly Cole, the Wayne Shorter Quartet, Joshua Redman, Keith Jarrett and Branford Marsalis. The 12-day festival, billed as the largest jazz event in North America, puts on an eclectic music program each year ranging from traditional jazz to blues and reggae played by musicians from all over the world. This year will also include performances by rock guitarist Derek Trucks, vocalist Mark Murphy, drummer Billy Cobham, French violinist Didier Lockwood and the North American premiere of the Spaghetti Western Orchestra, with its tribute to the film scores of Italian composer Ennio Morricone. _________________ A good sound track will let me relive the movie, I can cry over them as well. Hand me the tissues...please. |
