|
Well as most people know, Random Track Thursday was a hit. Many people participated and it helped everyone experience new music that is rarely selected. Well, to piggyback off that idea (actually thought about starting a thread about this before but the success of Random Track Thursday brought me to finally post) I thought it would be fun to come up with some ideas on other theme days.
Theme days would be fun for people to try out new stuff and pick stuff that they wouldn't normally pick to discover new music. It was suggested that Random Track Thursday could occur the first Thursday of every month. Maybe we can come up with three more theme days and have a theme on every Thursday in a month (Theme Thursdays)?
I have some ideas on themes, but thought I would let others contribute some ideas first and I will chime in if their is enough interest. I hope this takes off because I think it could be a lot of fun and really allow everyone to become familiar with more of the SST library of music! |

I think Random Track Thursday was such a resounding success because
#1: it was new
#2: people actually don't need to worry about what they pick
With Epic, Piano or Ukelele Day it might happen that people run out of ideas fairly quickly on what pick to present to the world.
I think it would be better to space the Theme Days a bit more widely than every Thursday. _________________ "Welcome to the paranoia club; cheapest fees in the universe and membership lasts forever."

Maybe we could see what Actors and Composers are having a birthday on that Thursday and then pick music from their movies (as much as we can). _________________ "I have *many* skills." -Xena |

We should do this with the composers birthdays on any day, not just on Thursdays.
But a special actor or director theme on a Thursday is a good idea. _________________ The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy on Flying: The knack of throwing yourself at the ground and miss.

Probably better off doing themes more like "Epic." Some suggestions:
Space/Science Fiction - Star Trek, Aliens, Star Wars, etc.
Westerns
James Bond and other spy/adventure movies (Bourne, True Lies)
Animation Day - Disney, Shrek, Happy Feet, etc
Super Heroes! |

yeah but Epic as we've seen when we've tried to do it, is often subjective.
I like BQ's suggestion. Or how about a bit more general... How about Genre day? e.g. spy day, space opera day, western day? |

True, but now there is almost no attention to composer birthdays.
And that's odd, because without the soundtrack composers SST would not exist. _________________ The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy on Flying: The knack of throwing yourself at the ground and miss.

I'm sure SST is open to suggestions about how to best celebrate composer birthdays, stefan.

I don't doubt that.
The main 'problem' is that not many people know when the birthdays of most of the composers are.
I made a suggestion for that in this thread and have been in contact with Jeric about that already.
So I guess we'll have to be patient. _________________ The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy on Flying: The knack of throwing yourself at the ground and miss.

Alien is right. We propably can't do good enough one artist day due to requesting rules.
So my newest suggestion is: let's have a "Letter Days".
I remember that some time ago Natedogg started chain of requests from different composers, starting from "A down to "Z" and every letter was connected with some composer. I remember it was fun.
So, why not try the idea of "Letter Days".
For example: On "J-day we would play only those composers whose names (first, second or any of them) are beginning with "J". On C-day all C-composers and so on...
Besides, I'm always interested in all events like: "Piano days"; "Classics days"; "Westerns Days"; "Sci-Fi Days"; "Action Days"; "SST Scores of the Year Day"; days devoted to decades etc. (And you may already know it, for example from here)
I think everything that helps us to explore SST playlist is good. _________________ <i>"The piano keys are black and white,

I think Theme Thursdays is a great idea. However, the more random we make the sounds the better.
I realize some composers have a clear style that is noticeable on most of their music, but it is still different enough that you won't get tired of the same thing.
That's why I love soundtracks, there's such a variety. I think choosing an instrument may get tiresome... not that I don't love pianos _________________ "This is just a bit of silliness, really" |
