Hello everybody,
Why is it only possible to listen to SST in MP3 32k with iTunes ?
iTunes is my main jukebox and i just want to avoid launching winamp to listen to SST in AAC Plus 64k.
Anyone have a solution ?
Thanks in advance.
Benoît, from Paname. |

Hey ben,
Welcome to the SST forums! I know this isn't the answer you were hoping for, but if you sign up for VIP (very reasonable rate at $50 per year!), you get access to great-sounding 128k mp3 streams ofr iTunes!
I'm not sure why the mp3 streams are not available in 64k, but others here may know.
Good luck!

Hi Luther_III,
Thank you for your response but as you guess it, this is not the answer i was hoping for !
I just want to understand why the same URL (for AAC Plus 64k) does NOT work with iTunes while it perfectly works with Winamp.
AAC Plus 64k is possible for non VIP users so where is the problem ?
The problem i want to solve is only technical.
Besides, i was thinking of being a VIP member but the problem i was speaking of in this topic seems quite interesting to me.
Other ideas ? |

One of the reasons why we haven't offered MP3 @ 64k is because there is still a bug in the encoders that use up too much CPU. Fortunately because we have a beast of a server we're able to handle the current MP3 streams. I also want to give more incentive to sign up for VIP as our bandwidth costs keep rising. _________________ "Are you not entertained? Are you not entertained? Is this not why you are here?." -Maximus

From JERIC's response, it's clear that the 64k mp3 encoder suffers from a bug that hogs CPU processing. Also, I know from searching the iTunes forums that iTunes does not support AACplus (at any bitrate).
You should count your blessings, though. Before the recent re-addition of the mp3 streams, there was no way to listen to SST on iTunes. I had a preference for iTunes and had to switch to Windows Media Player (with the Orban plug-in for AACplus). Now, I've become so accustomed to WMP that I always listen with that rather than iTunes.
For now, I guess you'll have to settle for 32k mp3 on iTunes, or use another player. Or become a VIP! |

When I click on the 32k iTunes link, my Winamp player opens. Then when I right-click and choose Open Link, my Real Player opens.
How do I get SST to play on iTunes? What is the URL address? _________________ "After dark all cats are leopards." - Native American Proverb |

Hmmm, it seems like a file association issue. I'm pretty sure that recently I clicked the iTunes links and they opened in iTunes automatically. But now, it's asking me if I want to find a program online to open the file with. I have upgraded iTunes since then, though: I'm now running version 7.3.1.3. I'm not sure how to help...

I just figured it out:
In iTunes, go to Edit->Preferences...
Now click on the "Advanced" tab, and in the "General" tab, make sure that you select "Use iTunes as the default player for audio files"
You should then be able to click the appropriate link in SST and have it open iTunes automatically. (You may have to choose to "Open" the file, rather than "Save" it.)
If you don't actually want iTunes to be your default player for audio files, I'm not what else to do.
I hope this helps!
P.S. In the process of testing this, I've confirmed again that 128k is much better than 32k.

Thanks Luther. My version is 7.1.1.5. I'll try and get an update of iTunes and see if that fixes the link. _________________ "After dark all cats are leopards." - Native American Proverb |
