I'd like to request the removal of "Us And Them, Symphonic Pink Floyd - The London Philharmonic Orchestra" ... it doesn't fit. It isn't a soundtrack, it's a symphonication (sp?) of a rock album. Personally I don't think it belongs.
Naturally, my vote is "Yes"
What say yea?

I agree. It would be one thing if it were, say, used in a movie, or a symphonic rendering of a rock score. But it isn't either of those things.
Might it be more at home with a different 24seven.fm station? _________________ I have a book coming out. Wanna see it?

Adagio.FM would be the closest fit, but I'm not sure what their criteria is.

Yes for me too. If we don't have "The wall", I don't understand why we should have this score. _________________ There is no problem that can't be solve without any solution |

seems to fit the Adagio criteria - ancient to modern compositions - don't want to lose it all together is all _________________ 'It was irritating to me that I should need money. I shouldn't need it.' Ed, The January Man |

Well.. I don't know.
To be honest, I don't really care whether it was ever in a movie or not, and IMO it sort of fits in with the rest of the music. Might be because I'm not terribly familiar with Pink Floyd, so I can't really "hear" the rock songs it's based on... *shrugs*
On Adagio.fm, on the other hand, while it actually might fall under their criteria... I do believe it would seriously stick out... and not in a positive way.
Seems to be we shouldn't be too rigid with the applications of the rule. Or we might need to get rid of a couple of the 'rejected' scores that are floating around, or some of the classical stuff, or the Dulce Ponte / Yo-Yo Ma / Ennio Morricone things, or... _________________ "Welcome to the paranoia club; cheapest fees in the universe and membership lasts forever."

I'm torn on this one. On one hand, I know that technically it's not a soundtrack but a remix of a rock album. On the other hand, it's not a traditional (or even modern) style classical composition which is what you would call most soundtracks. (Hence the removal of classical music from this station). So theoretically it "fits" better in streamingsoundtracks.com based on the fact that it's not really a "classical" music piece but more of a "pseudo classical" composition like most soundtracks. I personally wouldn't like to see it go. I don't really believe it would fit anywhere else. _________________ I do not wake up with thoughts of control and rebellion, but thoughts of purpose and righteousness and the empowerment to fulfill those convictions that define me. |

Another option is that it doesn't belong at any of the (current?) 24.7fm stations, WL0.

I tend to agree that this album doesn't really fit, but I do like the music... So, I'm not particularly adamant about either keeping or removing it. _________________ "If I were not a physicist, I would probably be a musician. I often think in music. I like the music and love to hear it when it comes on. I understand everyone's argument thats being thrown around, but I don't think it matters all that much. It's just a bunch of music. Good music too, which is why I come here. It would be a bummer not to hear it anymore. My vote is to keep it and to stop getting good music removed from this website. |

i do have to agree with jack ... (although i hear your point, ak) but in the end it all depends on how you define "soundtracks". I think this should be JERIC's call, because a lot of SST people have various definitions anyway. _________________ "I hope life is not one big joke, because I don't get it."

Well, there's precedent - songs which have been deemed "poppy" or not written specific for the movie (ie, a pop or current song which was included on the soundtrack) have been removed. By that definition alone LSO: PF doesn't qualify. It's not for a movie.
Heck, half the ST form Apollo 13 has been removed under this ruling. All I'm asking for is uniformity in the enforcement of the guidelines. Granted, in the end it's JERIC's call, but until I hear one way or the other, I'll continue to beat this drum.

First I'd like to say that I really value everyone's feedback on the playlist and I do appreciate these debates.
I could offer a dozen reasons why it should be here but then anyone could certainly counter those reasons. So I won't try to argue any of these points but rather give everyone a little insight to what how and what I think about this.
Sure, the album being here is a bit controversial. By the way, it was one of the very few albums that were in the playlist when the station launched. Respect!
Anyway, I sort of see it as a compromise to The Wall not being here. The music for The Wall is a soundtrack however they are mostly songs, and as we all know not composed FOR the movie. We all also know The Wall is a masterpiece!
I try to put myself in a first-time listener's mind when it comes to what to add or not add to the playlist. I want to make a good first impression.
- If I heard Symphonic Pink Floyd I am inclined to think: "What is this? This sounds familiar. What movie is it from?" and then may head to the website to find out more about it.
- If I heard Amadeus I am inclined to think "Wow this is really awesome, but I just heard this on NPR. I going to switch to a true soundtrack station"
I'll keep this topic unlocked for further debate but I have no intentions of removing this album. _________________ "Are you not entertained? Are you not entertained? Is this not why you are here?." -Maximus
