However, if you see a giant cube hovering over your head, don't panic... Just put out your thumb. _________________ "Anything one man can imagine,

Nice thread! Where do you start, where do you end?
-There is no sense of fashion in Earth's future.
- Hand help phasers/lasers and weapons do not need massive generators to create such high energy beams.
- Despite the fact that you CAN hear explosions, engines and other sounds in space - no one can hear you scream.
- Never trust robots/computers/synthetic humans/androids etc..
- Don't fall in love in space - it'll never last. |

depending on the philosophy you follow, the future will be a dark, dismal place (ala BladeRunner) or it will be intelligent, clean and beautiful (ala StarTrek) or it'll turn in to the Wild West (ala Firefly)

Or it could be like in WALL-E (new Pixar movie) where the earthlings leave earth and have robots clean up after them. _________________ I do not wake up with thoughts of control and rebellion, but thoughts of purpose and righteousness and the empowerment to fulfill those convictions that define me. |

All advanced Alien races have some form of computer that essentially functions like Earth technology and can inevitably be hacked by any smart scientist or astrophysicist using a laptop or any portable device.
I always wonder what OS they use in other planets! |

It will just be the next version of Windows sold to aliens at a massive mark up because they don't know any better. That's how come we can always hack into their computers! Good job really - look at the disasters we have averted that way! Actually, I'm sure Microsoft do it for the good of the planet...
Sci-fi movies are real, right? |

Any environments that are enclosed - be it a humongous space station, spaceship, or small transport - will always have gravity. |

Cute.
For me, the notable ones are always:
Don't split up the party...
Look up...
And look down!
Khan wasn't the only one to exhibit two dimensional thinking. I can't think of the number of SF movie characters I've seen die because they're spatially unaware. |

What a great thread, laughed and shook my head in agreement with all of these. It doesn't matter what space series one watches, these all hold true! |

A few that I always observe are:
Spaceships always bank and turn like they are flying in atmosphere (especially the smaller ones)
Any mechanical problems that plague the crew will be fixed in the nick of time.
There are a whole lot of oxygen breathable atmosphere planets in the universe. |

Anyone who isn't wearing a spacesuit who suddenly gets sent out of a depressurized airlock into space, just squirms a bit and floats away - intact.
(I think they got it right in the movie "Outland" - the elevator scene.) |

Lights will always flash and crew members are usually prepared by grabbing on the equipment when enemy fire hits and the ship shakes... _________________ I do not wake up with thoughts of control and rebellion, but thoughts of purpose and righteousness and the empowerment to fulfill those convictions that define me. |
