Out of the Admins, I was the biggest fan of the Ogg stream, (heck I'm the one who paid for it for the past month).
The sad fact is, very few people used it.
Fortunately, for mp3PRO we have a 64k stream, which is the optimum bitrate for that format. Give it a shot with the plugin installed (and turned on) on your end. |

When you see 44kHz in your player instead of 22kHz. _________________ "Are you not entertained? Are you not entertained? Is this not why you are here?." -Maximus

Hmm, I use Winamp 2.91, and I can tell that the mp3pro plugin is active (because it sounds a lot better, and it also says mp3pro in the track title display) but it still says 64 kbps when listening to the 64 k stream. |

Yes, that's how it should be. If the mp3PRO plugin is working it'll say 64kps at 44khz.
That is all mp3PRO needs to sound equivalent to normal mp3 128kps 44khz. |

Does this thread remind anyone else of the debates over the merits of OGG when it was 1st introduced to the site. As I recall, Cocles spent most of his time trying to convince people that the lower bandwidth of an OGG stream sounded just as good as a 128k mp3 stream. It was en endless procession of users who wanted the 128k back and were disgusted about what they percieved as a lesser quality stream.
Just an observation.
Resume thread. _________________ A little rudeness and disrespect can elevate a meaningless interaction to a battle of wills and add drama to an otherwise dull day. - Calvin and Hobbes - |

I don't understand your point jk, if you had one.
But I do like how people drop in the chat to complain about no ogg or 128k and say they're leaving SST becuase of that. But if you look in the left hand corner of the site, when's the last time you seen that many listeners on? (Currently 143) And that is limited by the cap. _________________ "Are you not entertained? What I miss about the OGG stream is that (in XMMS at least) it would update the display with the track title, etc. Such is life...
Either way, thanks to all that put forth time, effort, money, whatever, to make this such a great site.

I appreciate your comments. The title streaming is available in Winamp and QCD. They are displayed as "Album - Artist - Title (Duration)". In the mp3PRO plugin for winamp, you have to make sure that feature is turned on. I don't know about XMMS though. Is that for the *nix OS? And it does show the title streaming in it anymore with mp3PRO? _________________ "Are you not entertained? Are you not entertained? Is this not why you are here?." -Maximus

I'm from Virginia also!
Well wasnt the listener count low because of some server problem? I think thats why it seems like there is more now. Because I used to listen to ShoutCast and they always had more people listed then the ounter thingy. |

Ogg was always stable, and rarely had more than three or four people using it at a time (including me).
We fixed the servers several weeks ago.
On Friday we changed the station over to mp3PRO.
By Monday we had around a 400% increase in listeners.
P.S. And J2Brown. That's a problem with your player or its settings. Mp3PRO is more than capable of streaming the titlebar too. |
