The launch went perfectly today... so far it's been a very good day |
That's great. Thanks for the update, Albi.
I had my alarm set for the launch but juuuust could not force myself to wake up enough to watch. Next time please schedule it for US midday. |

A bit of space trivia: On January 5th 1972 President Nixon announced that NASA will develop a space "shuttle" system.
"I have decided today that the United States should proceed at once with the development of an entirely new type of space transportation system designed to help transform the space frontier of the 1970s into familiar territory, easily accessible for human endeavor in the 1980s and '90s.
This system will center on a space vehicle that can shuttle repeatedly from Earth to orbit and back. It will revolutionize transportation into near space, by routinizing it. It will take the astronomical costs out of astronautics. In short, it will go a long way toward delivering the rich benefits of practical space utilization and the valuable spinoffs from space efforts into the daily lives of Americans and all people. "

Neat trivia, J2!
And now only 5 missions remain:
STS-130 - Endeavor - Launch date Feb. 7th (subject to change, of course)
STS-131 - Discovery - March 18
STS-132 - Atlantis - May 14**
STS-134 - Endeavour - July 19 *
STS-133 - Discovery - Sept 16
**Chandler will be at this one. Perhaps Sirius, too? Any other SSTers?
(Edited by Twopop to reflect Chandler's comment below. LOL

I've never seen a shuttle launch. Maybe I'll need to make an effort to go see one, and the 19th is when the wife and daughter are out of school. Hmm...

OH! OH! OH! ME! ME! ME! Looks like I'll be out there for this one as well. At least that's the plan for now. Part of our massive summer vacation this year.

Wow! This is starting to almost look like a Gathering.
Seeing a shuttle launch is on my Bucket List. We've been looking into going but it won't be the July 19th one.
I hope you all make it!! |

For us it's July 19th or bust... school conflicts with most of the others.

Sorry, I will not be at the STS-134 launch. I'll be at the STS-132, though _________________ "Anything one man can imagine,
