|
I bought like loads of others the Pirates 4 album. With great excitement with the great themes from the other 3 movies in my mind I put it in the CD player.
To me this soundtrack was quite a disappointment..
- It was short
- It contained a lot of weird remixes I did not like.
- It misses the full orchestra sound of the other three movies that makes the score epic.
I am wondering if others feel the same way too or that I am the only one. |

You are not alone. Well, not alone in disliking the album. I listened to it free via AOL. The remixes are garbage.
If you feel strongly, I say, write a review! _________________ I have a book coming out. Wanna see it?

I listened to it on AOL as well. I enjoyed a couple of the tracks, but not enough to buy the whole album. Maybe I'll just buy the good tracks on iTunes or something. When I saw the movie in the theaters I noticed many of the same themes from the first three movies, with some new ones mixed in too. Still some good music, but yes, those remixes were interesting... _________________ "All you have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to you." - Gandalf the Grey |

Okay, the remixes were probably some sort of cynical cash grab. My question is, does anyone really like that kind of thing, and why? I'm not judging; I want to know.
I think Cal and I have different feelings about epic. I think that Zimmer tends to be so overblown sometimes, I was grateful for the scaled-back approach on this album. It was also blessedly free of electronics, which are another thing I think he overdoes. It probably makes it easier to clone his sound, but I'm not a fan. _________________ I have a book coming out. My definition of epic is pretty easy:
Sitting with my eyes closed on the floor in front of my speakers.
Epicness = goosebumps.
This score does not have that. |

I think "Mermaids" is very epic. Love the choir, the build-up and the payoff.

For reasons I can't explain, I've always been fond of trance/techno. So I enjoy the remixes, especially Static Revenge's "Angry and Dead Again" mix.
However, I would have gladly traded them all in exchange for more of Zimmer's material. There were some great action score pieces that didn't make the cut but deserved to. _________________ "You have been chosen to represent Earth in Mortal Kombat. Be warned. Cal you're right IMHO.
For me the cd ends at track #12.
You could expect much of the same theme of course and I particularly like the guitar parts.
But goosebumps like with POTC1, uhh no.
Still good to have it though. HZFC! _________________

This album definitely disappointed me. I don't like remixes very often, and for a soundtrack album to have half the running time full of remixes, well, that's not going to win me over. Plus, a lot of the tracks were repeats of themes heard from earlier albums. The mermaids track was good...I'll give Zimmer that, but one track an album does not make. |
