For the SST members who decide to go to this great festival!!
I have just received this message from Robert Townson of Varese Sarabande and Diego Navarro, the director of the Film Music Festival.
BERNARD HERRMANN CONCERT, FILM FESTIVAL AND PANEL!
The Bernard Herrmann centenary being celebrated this year with tributes all over the world will reach a triumphant crescendo the week of his birth, in Tenerife at Fimucité 5! Bernard Herrmann was born on June 29, 1911. Fimucité 5's 2011 celebration of film music will open with a panel discussion of the composer's career featuring producer Robert ...
JOHN BARRY CONCERT AND FILM FESTIVAL!
The legendary John Barry will be celebrated at Fimucité 5 with an extraordinary tribute concert in Tenerife on July 2. Music from Goldfinger, Born Free, Midnight Cowboy, Chaplin, The Lion In Winter, Dances With Wolves and many others will be performed by the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, under the direction of Diego Navarro. In addition to the this very special concert event, a John Barry Film Festival will take place on two islands - in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and La Palmas de Gran Canaria. The films will include The Knack, Petulia, Midnight Cowboy and Mary, Queen of Scots. Join us to remember and celebrate this great master!
Have fun!
Greetz

Latest press release from them:
FIMUCITÉ will host the Spanish Film Music Critics Awards
The concert focused on Pascal Gaigne, Arnau Bataller and Roque Baños on
June, 30 at Guimerá Theater, will host for the first time the presentation of
these Awards, which are voted by the best online, print and radio journalists
each year
The Tenerife International Film Music Festival (FIMUCITÉ), which will take place
from June 27 to July 2, sponsored by Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, Canary Islands
Government and Santa Cruz and La Laguna City Councils, is the first venue to
host the presentation of the Spanish Film Music Critics Awards, voted by the best
national online, print and radio journalists through the Internet. The Awards will be
presented on June 30 at 21.00 during the concert that FIMUCITÉ has staged at
Guimerá Theater.
The Awards, organized by the prestigious website Scoremagacine since 2004,
is formed by specialists who write for Dirigido Por, La Butaca, Radio Cataluña
or la Cadena COPE, among others. The Awards presented in FIMUCITÉ this
year are: “Best Foreign Score of the Year” to Hans Zimmer for “Inception”.
Alexandre Desplat has been, for the fifth year, the winner of “Best Composer of
the Year”. Roque Baños has been awarded with the “Best Original Score of the
Year” for “Balada Triste de Trompeta”. Arnau Bataller has won the awards “Best
Composer of the Year” and “Breakout Composer of the Year”. “Oceans”, by
the French Bruno Coulais, got the “Best Original Score for a Television Series/
Documentary Feature/ Video Game” and “Spartacus”, released by the film music
label Varese Sarabande got the “Best Archival Release of an Existing Score”.
The concert at Guimerá Theater will be focused on the composers Pascal Gaigne,
and the awarded Arnau Bataller and Roque Baños. The Tenerife Film Ensemble
will perform, in the first half, Gaigne’s scores for “AzulOscuroCasiNegro”, “Gordos”
or “Castillos de cartón”.
Then, after the presentation of the Awards, the Symphony Orchestra of the Santa
Cruz Conservatory, conducted by José María Vicente, and with Roque Baños as
a guest conductor, will perform the “Suite” from “La Herencia Valdemar”, by Arnau
Bataller, and “Torrente” and “Balada Triste de Trompeta” by Baños himself.

Another press release.
FIMUCITÉ will offer the World premiere “Suite” for “Thor”, by Patrick Doyle
The superhero films will find their place again in the Festival thanks to the score of this Marvel Comics classic, performed by the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra and conducted by Diego Navarro, on July 1 at the Auditorio “Adán Martín”
The Tenerife International Film Music Festival (FIMUCITÉ), which will take place from June 27 to July 2, sponsored by Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, Canary Islands Government and Santa Cruz and La Laguna City Councils, will extend its offer to music and comic lovers with the World premiere “Suite” for “Thor”, by Patrick Doyle, box office hit film directed by Kenneth Branagh. The Tenerife Symphony Orchestra and the Tenerife Film Choir, with Cristina Farraris as choir master, will perform the score, conducted by the Festival composer and director, Diego Navarro, on July 1, at 21.00, at the Auditorio de Tenerife “Adán Martín”.
The Festival has always paid attention to the twinning among different cultural styles, as the American film and comics have had for years. This premiere means a step forward in the tradition FIMUCITÉ has had since the beginning, staging premiere concert performances for so well known films such as “Iron Man” or “Spiderman 3”, and the performances of “Superman” or “Superman Returns”.
It is worth mentioning “Astroboy”, the film based on the world-famous anime by Osamu Tezuka, which made Tenerife become the only place in the World to be presented before the opening of the film. Regarding the Spanish comics, the Festival is also very involved with this type of art, which has culminated, among other collaborations, in the poster Alfonso Azpiri, unquestionable veteran and author of characters such as “Lorna” and “Mot”, designed for FIMUCITÉ 3.

Press release:
Stephen Warbeck, Academy Award winner for “Shakespeare in Love”, will offer his first concert in Spain at the Leal Theater
The concert, staged for June 29 at 21.00 by FIMUCITÉ, includes, among other works of the acclaimed British composer, the world premiere of his scores for “Un Balcon sur la Mer”, “There Will Be Dragons”, and “Polisse”, Jury Prize in the last Cannes Film Festival
The Tenerife International Film Music Festival (FIMUCITÉ), which will take place from June 27 to July 2, sponsored by Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, Canary Islands Government and Santa Cruz and La Laguna City Councils, will offer one of the most anticipated concerts for film music fans: the first appointment of the Spanish audience with the Academy Awarded composer Stephen Warbeck, winner for “Shakespeare in Love” (1998). It will be on June 29 at the Leal Theater in La Laguna at 21.00.
The repertoire of the composer will also include the world premiere of the concert suites of the scores for the films “Un Balcon Sur la Mer”, “There Will Be Dragons”, and “Polisse”, this last one awarded with the Jury Prize in the last Cannes Film Festival. Warbeck will go on stage accompanied by his band, formed by the clarinetist and sax Sarah Homer, Dario Rosetti-Bonell (electric and acoustic guitars); Nick Cooper (cello), and Steve Watts, Rob Millett and Paul Clarvis, bass, percussion and drums, respectively.
The concert will round off with the pieces composed for “Charlotte Gray”, “Captain Corelli’s Mandolin” and the mentioned “Shakespeare in Love”, as well as some surprises that Warbeck will dedicate specifically to his fans during the performance.
After eight years of working as a composer and performer for the stage, Stephen began writing music for film and television. Since the early 1980's, he has built up a considerable filmography. As well as writing music for more than forty television projects, (for which he has received five BAFTA nominations), he has scored many feature films and numerous radio plays. |
