Due to the fact that I was appointed ambassador the local newspaper asked me if they could have an interview on that subject.
It became a lively article that reached the front page of the region section.
I'll translate it here:
Ad de Nijs from Roosendaal, crazy about soundtracks
A good score will stand firm even taken away from the image
People can listen 24 hours a day to filmmusic on the American Internetstation SST (Streamingsoundtracks.com). It's heaven for Ad de Nijs from Roosendaal. He may now call himself ambassador of this station and will be present today at the 11th. World Soundtrack Awards in Ghent,Belgium.
by Willem Jongeneelen
He poses a bit uneasy in front of the standee of "de Bende van Oss" in the City Theatre in Roosendaal. "pity that they won't release a cd from the music from that movie", he starts off enthusiastic."It's always a matter of money, 'cause there certainly are very nice Dutch moviescores"
The 48year old , Roosendaal-born and -raised, has a craze for filmmusic. Although he works for many years as freelance professional driver he started as a teenager in the local filmtheatre as aid and later as a manager in the 'Cinemactueel' in Bergen op Zoom. When cleaning up the theatre he always heared the endcredits play which often contained the themes as they appeared in the movie.
For some people filmmusic is unheared in the movie, until you would take it away
In that time it were timely movies like 'Grease' and Saturday night fever' but later on he started liking the classic scores as his musical interest changed.
"Filmmusic can be considered the "new" classical music. This development started when silent movies got sound. Before that accompanying music was played live in the theatre and often improvised."Old" Classical music was written for operas, ballets or royalties but then the medium changed to film and TV and the music changed along with it. Filmmusic is often a bit faster and cut shorter due to the editing of the movie.
For some people filmmusic is unheared in the movie, until you would take it away. Of course there is supporting-only music, but a good score will stand firm even when cut loose from the image. The best are the ones who create a bond between sound and image and who still can be appreciated played separately".
That filmmusic has it's traditions in classical music can be proved by the fact that it was the famous french composer Camille Saint-Saëns who, at the end of his life, wrote the very first filmscore. Also acclaimed russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich wrote many filmscores, for example the 1964 version of 'Hamlet'.
In his own way De Nijs thinks he found SST much too late. It was started in 2001 by the american proprietor Jeric who wanted to hear his favorite cd collection of soundtracks at work and therefore started the internetradiostation. Since 2008 De Nijs has become addicted to the specialized station that sees a large database and operates interactive.Worldwide the 'community' has almost 32.000 members and the Netherlands rank 7th. But it's always up for approvement and so De Nijs searched for ways to promote soundtracks in general and the station in particular. Through chat and forums he became more and more enthusiastic and members approached more and more the organisors of concerts and festivals in order to find a way to promote SST.
"There has been made a promotional stand which we'll take along with us. And if necessary we'll organise activities ourselves, including concerts."
Today ambassador De Nijs will be present at the Filmfestival in Gent. That's where the 11th World Soundtrack Awards will be granted. "After the Oscar the most aprreciated prize for filmmusic composers because it's issued by the world of composers themselves. During the ceremony and in the fair prior to that Hans Zimmer, Elliott Goldenthal and Howard Shore will be present. Real majors in their territory."
After the issuing of the filmmusic prizes the Brussels Philharmonic conducted by Dirk Brossé will bring a remarkable selection from these great composers. Line-up will be complemented with triple Oscar-winner and 'godfather of the disco' Giorgio Moroder. Composer of such soundtracks as "Midnight Express","Flashdance" and "Scarface". He will receive a "Lifetime Achievement Award" for his outstanding carreer in filmmusic.

Nice interview Dutch. I presume that what you said, is what is written in the interview? You never know, these days, with reporters.
If yes, then it was a great promotion for SST. Well done Ambassador!
